Contemporary Perspectives on Language, Culture and Identity in Anglo-American Contexts
This collection of essays highlights the great variety one finds in contemporary scholarly discourse in the fields of English and American studies and English linguistics in a broad and inclusive way. It is divided into thematically structured sections, the first two of which examine the motif of travelling and images of recollection in literary works, while the third and the fourth parts deal with male and female voices in narratives. Another chapter discusses visual and textual representations of history. The last two subsections focus on the rhetorical and theoretical questions of language. The pluralism of themes indicated in the book’s title can thus be regarded not as a limitation, but, rather, as evidence of its potential.

A Paradigm of Comparative Lexicology
Intended to bridge the gap between two languages of the Indo-European family, this is the first comprehensive bifocal approach to lexicological aspects. Through its theoretical distinctions and applications, the book recommends itself to language professionals and to any reader interested in learning more about words. It starts with a brief theoretical account of overlapping terms, which are given crystal-clear disambiguations. The book then focuses on structural representations of word formations and word relationships, outlining their hierarchicalness and branching directions and revealing various levels of materialization entailed by lexical productivity and frequency of occurrence. Each of these hierarchies defines its related techniques and explains lexical creations, adaptations or adoptions and interrelationships. This book gathers outstanding papers presented at the European Conference on Numerical Mathematics and Advanced Applications (ENUMATH 2019). The conference was organized by Delft University of Technology and was held in Egmond aan Zee, the Netherlands, from September 30 to October 4, 2019. Risky Transactions
Trust is a central feature of relationships within the Mafia, oppressed minorities, kin groups everywhere, among dissidents, nationalist freedom fighters, ethnic tourists, ethnic middlemen, exchange networks of Kalahari Bushmen, and families subjected to Stalinist social control. Each of these types of trust is examined by a leading scholar and compared with the expectations of neo-Darwinian theory, in particular the theories of kin selection and ethnic nepotism. The result is a fascinating, theoretically focused yet empirically eclectic contribution to the overlapping fields of human ethnology, evolutionary psychology, and bio-politics. The common thread uniting these diverse phenomena is a trusting relationship predicated on altruism. Chapters examine the strengths and limits of human trust under various stressers and temptations to defect. By exploring the relationship between kin and ethnic altruism and showing its sensitivity to culture, Risky Transactions recasts the evolutionary approach to ethnicity as a blend of primordial and instrumental factors.
