Recent Trends in Cryptography
This volume contains articles representing the courses given at the 2005 RSME Santalo Summer School on ``Recent Trends in Cryptography''. The main goal of the Summer School was to present some of the recent mathematical methods used in cryptography and cryptanalysis. Geometric Partial Differential Equations
This book is the outcome of a conference held at the Centro De Giorgi of the Scuola Normale of Pisa in September 2012. The aim of the conference was to discuss recent results on nonlinear partial differential equations, and more specifically geometric evolutions and reaction-diffusion equations. Particular attention was paid to self-similar solutions, such as solitons and travelling waves, asymptotic behaviour, formation of singularities and qualitative properties of solutions. These problems arise in many models from Physics, Biology, Image Processing and Applied Mathematics in general, and have attracted a lot of attention in recent years.
Symmetries and Related Topics in Differential and Difference Equations
The papers collected here discuss topics such as Lie symmetries, equivalence transformations and differential invariants, group theoretical methods in linear equations, and the development of some geometrical methods in theoretical physics. The reader will find new results in symmetries of differential and difference equations, applications in classical and quantum mechanics, two fundamental problems of theoretical mechanics, and the mathematical nature of time in Lagrangian mechanics.
Beyond Topology
The purpose of this collection is to guide the non-specialist through the basic theory of various generalizations of topology, starting with clear motivations for their introduction. Structures considered include closure spaces, convergence spaces, proximity spaces, quasi-uniform spaces, merotopic spaces, nearness and filter spaces, semi-uniform convergence spaces, and approach spaces. Each chapter is self-contained and accessible to the graduate student, and focuses on motivations to introduce the generalization of topologies considered, presenting examples where desirable properties are not present in the realm of topologies and the problem is remedied in the more general context. Then, enough material will be covered to prepare the reader for more advanced papers on the topic. While category theory is not the focus of the book, it is a convenient language to study these structures and, while kept as a tool rather than an object of study, will be used throughout the book. For this reason, the book contains an introductory chapter on categorical topology.
