Molecular Imaging of Small Animals
This book examines the fundamental concepts of multimodality small-animal molecular imaging technologies and their numerous applications in biomedical research. Driven primarily by the widespread availability of various small-animal models of human diseases replicating accurately biological and biochemical processes in vivo, this is a relatively new yet rapidly expanding field that has excellent potential to become a powerful tool in biomedical research and drug development. In addition to being a powerful clinical tool, a number of imaging modalities including but not limited to CT, MRI, SPECT and PET are also used in small laboratory animal research to visualize and track certain molecular processes associated with diseases such as cancer, heart disease and neurological disorders in living small animal models of disease. In vivo small-animal imaging is playing a pivotal role in the scientific research paradigm enabling to understand human molecular biology and pathophysiology using, for instance, genetically engineered mice with spontaneous diseases that closely mimic human diseases.
Advances in Diagnosis and Therapy of Neuroendocrine Neoplasms
This Special Issue is dedicated to neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs), a category of malignancy that demonstrates wide clinical heterogeneity, posing major challenges in diagnosis and management. PET/MR Imaging: Current and Emerging Applications
This book offers an excellent overview of the current applications of PET/MR imaging. Detailed information is provided on both its principal oncologic applications and its most important non-oncologic applications, such as assessment of cardiac disease, neurodegenerative brain imaging, and imaging of inflammatory disease. As chairman of the European Association of Nuclear Medi cine (EANM) 2001 annual meeting, I tried to reach two goals: a "universal nuclear medicine" congress where all people could speak and learn using the same language, and a full exploration of the possibility of making a diagnosis through global imaging. I am personally convinced that nuclear med icine techniques in the detection of infection and inflamma tion are essential, and in the near future their role and clinical impact will be impressive.
