This is an autobiography and an exposition on the contributions and personalities of many of the leading researchers in mathematics and physics with whom Dr Krishna Alladi, Professor of Mathematics at the University of Florida, has had personal interaction with for over six decades. Discussions of various aspects of the physics and mathematics academic professions are included.Part I begins with the author's unusual and frequent introductions as a young boy to scientific luminaries like Nobel Laureates Niels Bohr, Murray Gell-Mann, and Richard Feynman, in the company of his father, the scientist Alladi Ramakrishnan. Also in Part I is an exciting account of how the author started his research...
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 16th International Conference on Intelligent Computer Mathematics, CICM 2023, held in Cambridge, UK, in September 2023. The 14 full papers, 2 project/survey papers, 6 short papers, and 1 tool paper presented were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 37 submissions. The papers focus on advances in formalization, automatic theorem proving and learning, search and classification, teaching and geometric reasoning, and logic and systems, among other topics.
This volume reflects the contributions stemming from the conference Analytic and Combinatorial Number Theory: The Legacy of Ramanujan which took place at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on June 6-9, 2019. The conference included 26 plenary talks, 71 contributed talks, and 170 participants. As was the case for the conference, this book is in honor of Bruce C Berndt and in celebration of his mathematics and his 80th birthday.Along with a number of papers previously appearing in Special Issues of the International Journal of Number Theory, the book collects together a few more papers, a biography of Bruce by Atul Dixit and Ae Ja Yee, a preface by George Andrews, a gallery of photos from the conference, a number of speeches from the conference banquet, the conference poster, a list of Bruce's publications at the time this volume was created, and a list of the talks from the conference.
Gathered from the 2016 Gainesville Number Theory Conference honoring Krishna Alladi on his 60th birthday, these proceedings present recent research in number theory. Extensive and detailed, this volume features 40 articles by leading researchers on topics in analytic number theory, probabilistic number theory, irrationality and transcendence, Diophantine analysis, partitions, basic hypergeometric series, and modular forms. Readers will also find detailed discussions of several aspects of the path-breaking work of Srinivasa Ramanujan and its influence on current research. Many of the papers were motivated by Alladi's own research on partitions and q-series as well as his earlier work in number theory. Alladi is well known for his contributions in number theory and mathematics. His research interests include combinatorics, discrete mathematics, sieve methods, probabilistic and analytic number theory, Diophantine approximations, partitions and q-series identities. Graduate students and researchers will find this volume a valuable resource on new developments in various aspects of number theory.
This volume contains the proceedings of an international conference to commemorate the 125th anniversary of Ramanujan's birth, held from November 5-7, 2012, at the University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida. Srinivasa Ramanujan was India's most famous mathematician. This volume contains research and survey papers describing recent and current developments in the areas of mathematics influenced by Ramanujan. The topics covered include modular forms, mock theta functions and harmonic Maass forms, continued fractions, partition inequalities, -series, representations of affine Lie algebras and partition identities, highly composite numbers, analytic number theory and quadratic forms.
The book is centered around the research areas of combinatorics, special functions, and computer algebra. What these research fields share is that many of their outstanding results do not only have applications in Mathematics, but also other disciplines, such as computer science, physics, chemistry, etc. A particular charm of these areas is how they interact and influence one another. For instance, combinatorial or special functions' techniques have motivated the development of new symbolic algorithms. In particular, first proofs of challenging problems in combinatorics and special functions were derived by making essential use of computer algebra. This book addresses these interdisciplinary aspects. Algorithmic aspects are emphasized and the corresponding software packages for concrete problem solving are introduced. Readers will range from graduate students, researchers to practitioners who are interested in solving concrete problems within mathematics and other research disciplines.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 25th International Workshop on Computer Algebra in Scientific Computing, CASC 2023, which took place in Havana, Cuba, during August 28-September 1, 2023. The 22 full papers included in this book were carefully reviewed and selected from 29 submissions. They focus on the theory of symbolic computation and its implementation in computer algebra systems as well as all other areas of scientific computing with regard to their benefit from or use of computer algebra methods and software.
