Amyloidosis
Amyloidoses are a heterogeneous group of diverse etiology diseases. They are characterized by an endogenous production of abnormal proteins called amyloid proteins, which are not hydrosoluble, form depots in various organs and tissue of animals and humans and cause dysfunctions. Despite many decades of research, the origin of the pathogenesis and the molecular determinants involved in amyloid diseases has remained elusive. At present, there is not an effective treatment to prevent protein misfolding in these amyloid diseases. The aim of this book is to present an overview of different aspects of amyloidoses from basic mechanisms and diagnosis to latest advancements in treatment.
The Post-Crisis Developmental State
The focus of this volume is on the role of the developmental state in a situation in which a series of major crises affects the (semi-) periphery of the global economy. The authors go beyond the established debate on developmental states in East Asia by highlighting a much broader understanding of development and a very different global economic context. Staphylococcus aureus S. aureus is a growing issue both within hospitals and community because of its virulence determinants and the continuing emergence of new strains resistant to antimicrobiotics. In this book, we present the state of the art of S. aureus virulence mechanisms and antibiotic-resistance profiles, providing an unprecedented and comprehensive collection of up-to-date research about the evolution, dissemination, and mechanisms of different staphylococcal antimicrobial resistance patterns alongside bacterial virulence determinants and their impact in the medical field. immy Page is still recognized as one of the most influential guitarists of all time and one of the most important rock composers worldwide. And Page's relationship with Brazil is old: in addition to having starred in many meetings with national music stars, the Led Zeppelin guitarist spent seasons in Bahia and inaugurated Casa Jimmy to house homeless youth in the capital of Rio de Janeiro – which earns him the title of Honorary Citizen of Rio de Janeiro. This intense story is the theme of Jimmy Page in Brazil, a bilingual book (Portuguese / English) by journalist and musician Leandro Souto Maior. The book has a preface by Ed Motta, one of the greatest collectors and connoisseurs of Led Zeppelin's work in Brazil, and postscript by young guitarist Sebastião Reis, the son of musician Nando Reis, what confirms that the band has crossed generations. The layout and cover bear the signature of Tomás Paoni, the artistic director of the project. The cover photo is by Marcos Hermes, a great photographer in the Brazilian music market. The edition is signed by Chris Fuscaldo, director of Garota FM Books.
