"The Polish Army in France (Armia Polska Francyi) -- commonly known as Haller's Army (Armia Hallera), in recognition of their commanding general, and the Blue Army, named for their French-issued blue uniforms - was a volunteer army recruited from 47 centers and camp Niagara in the United States and Canada, starting in October 1917 and ending in March 1919. This fighting force was comprised predominantly of Polish nationals living in the United States and Canada who volunteered to fight in France towards the last year of World War I, and to continue fighting in Poland for its independence from all neighboring governments. This challenging new work uses archival research to examine Poland's government in exile during the Second World War as it sought both to fight against the advances of Germany and the Soviet Union, and to prepare for the moment when it would once more be possible to establish a national Polish government. The author suggests that the Poles were as much at war with themselves throughout the war and in the years immediately following the end of hostilities as they were with the German and Soviet forces. Civil War in Poland, 1942-1948 contributes to the debate on the fate of Poland in this complex period, the origins of Communist regimes in Eastern Europe, and the process of transformation in Europe during and since the Second World War.
This book discusses the problems of complexity in industrial data, including the problems of data sources, causes and types of data uncertainty, and methods of data preparation for further reasoning in engineering practice. Each data source has its own specificity, and a characteristic property of industrial data is its high degree of uncertainty. The book also explores a wide spectrum of soft modeling methods with illustrations pertaining to specific cases from diverse industrial processes. In soft modeling the physical nature of phenomena may not be known and may not be taken into consideration. Soft models usually employ simplified mathematical equations derived directly from the data obtained as observations or measurements of the given system. Although soft models may not explain the nature of the phenomenon or system under study, they usually point to its significant features or properties.
