The Time of Mute Swans
Ankara, the capital city in the heart of Turkey at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, East and West, is a hotspot in the Cold War, torn between communism and conservatism, Western freedoms and traditional ways, with an army fearful of democracy and a government that employs thugs and torture to enforce law and order. In the summer of 1980, tensions are building. Homes of the poor are being burnt down. Armed revolutionaries on college campuses battle right-wings militias in the city's neighborhoods. The lines between good and bad, right and wrong, and beautiful and ugly are blurred by shed blood. Hydrogen Romantic
The idea of the Hydrogen Romantic book came to my mind after working for several years with the leading hydrogen energy scientists and observing their activities. One of those scientists, Dr. Turhan Nejat Veziroglu, has devoted his life to this topic, becoming much loved and respected around the world. In addition to all the momentous events in which Dr. Veziroglu has been involved, his memories are very interesting. Such a life is almost like navigating the pages of history, allowing admirers to gain information without being bored. I asked him to spend one hour with me every day, so I could interview him. During those one-hour periods, I asked him questions, and I recorded his responses. After I finished the interviews, I listened to the recordings. From this, I wrote the book. In addition, I did research on the sections dealing with the historical events. I've added this research as narratives in the book.

Gender and Insecurity
This title was first published in 2003. Migration is a phenomenon which is at the heart of global politics and, within the EU, governments are continually trying to reinforce their controls of migration. These controls, designed to increase the security of European populations may, however, have the adverse effect of increasing the insecurity of migrants. This is particularly true for the many women who migrate to Europe and find themselves in insecure positions because of their lack of independent legal status, the difficulty of access to adequate health and social security provision and their particular vulnerability to both domestic and institutional forms of violence. They are often in economically weak positions, either unemployed or in badly paid part-time or domestic jobs with no forms of social protection. Gender and Insecurity addresses these various forms of insecurity and details ways in which they might be addressed. Further, it looks at the ways in which immigrant women have themselves tried to fight against these insecurities through their own political mobilisation.
