The Languages and Linguistics of Indigenous North America
This handbook provides broad coverage of the languages indigenous to North America, with special focus on typologically interesting features and areal characteristics, surveys of current work, and topics of particular importance to communities. The volume is divided into two major parts: subfields of linguistics and family sketches. The subfields include those that are customarily addressed in discussions of North American languages (sounds and sound structure, words, sentences), as well as many that have received somewhat less attention until recently (tone, prosody, sociolinguistic variation, directives, information structure, discourse, meaning, language over space and time, conversation structure, evidentiality, pragmatics, verbal art, first and second language acquisition, archives, evolving notions of fieldwork). Family sketches cover major language families and isolates and highlight topics of special value to communities engaged in work on language maintenance, documentation, and revitalization.
Turkish and Other Muslim Minorities in Bulgaria
Three groups of people together constitute Bulgaria's Muslim population - Turks, Pomaks and Gypsies. This text delineates their historical experience in the Ottoman and post-Ottoman periods, and then examines their situation today - politically, economically and socially.

Organizing Grammar
Henk van Riemsdijk has long been known as one of Europe’s most important linguists. His seminal ideas have been influential in developing generative grammar in Europe and beyond. As the initiator, co-founder, and chair of the GLOW society, he made the society the leading platform of European generative linguistics. He has also been editor of the series Studies in Generative Grammar since its foundation. As a teacher and supervisor, he has inspired generations of students. On the occasion of his relocation from the Netherlands to Italy, his friends, students and colleagues celebrate his work with this collection of essays on numerous topics of current theoretical interest.
Studies in Syntactic Typology
The papers in this volume are revised versions of presentations at the conference on Language Universals and Language Typology in March 1985 at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. They include new proposals of universals, results of investigations to validate or refine previously proposed universal generalizations, and discussions concerning the explanation of universals. The volume will be of great interest to researchers in syntax and in language universals. In addition, scholars in pragmatics, philosophy of linguistics, psycholinguistics, anthropological linguistics and semantics will also find articles of interest in the book.
Crossing Boundaries
The book contains eleven articles on theoretical problems in Albanian, Hungarian, Polish, (Old) Russian, Romanian, and the South Slavic languages of Bulgarian, Macedonian, Serbo-Croatian, and Slovenian. They cover topics such as clitics, head and phrasal movement, the structure of the DP, and clause structure. A number of papers refer to and make systematic comparisons with languages outside the region, including Breton, German, Hebrew, and Welsh. Since the papers were selected from an international conference in Spring 1998 in Szeged, Hungary, they represent the crossing of boundaries in three senses: the physical sense, by comparing genetically unrelated languages, and by examining properties of movement across categories.
