The scope of nanotechnology in medical applications has expanded fast in the last two decades. This book exemplifies the evolution of oncogene HER2-encoded enzyme from its discovery to the stage of a fully recognized target for breast cancer therapy. Intensive research over the last three decades has uncovered major mechanisms that regulate the transformation of a normal tissue to a malignant tumor. However, to the disappointment of many molecular biologists, these significant advances in identifying oncogenes, tumor-suppressors and critical signalling pathways have generated only limited impact in clinical oncology. This frustration may not persist for long: tailor-made drugs developed specifically to recognize molecular targets, and intercept biochemical engines whose intricacy is well understood, are on the verge of revolutionizing contemporary medicine.
Operation Barbarossa: Volume IIA concerns the Wehrmacht. All the significant German weapon systems and combat squads used in the campaign are analysed using the quantitative methodology detailed in Volume I, along with the contextual history. An assessment of each weapon system's inherent 'combat power' is provided, as well as attributes such as the relative anti-tank, anti-personnel and anti-aircraft values. Volume IIA then focuses on the detailed Kriegstarkenachweisungen (KStN, or TOE) for German land units (including those in the West), as well as the unit's actual organisation and equipment. All significant units in the German Army (Heer), Waffen SS, Luftwaffe and security forces are included; ranging from the largest panzer divisions, down to small anti-aircraft companies, military-police units, Landesschutzen battalions, and rail-road and construction companies. In all cases the data is presented in detailed tables, using the weapon systems and combat squads previously analysed.
In the view of most experts pharmacology is on drugs, targets, and actions. In the context the drug as a rule is seen as an active pharmaceutical ingredient and not as a complex mixture of chemical entities of a well defined structure. Today, we are becoming more and more aware of the fact that delivery of the active compound to the target site is a key. The present volume gives a topical overview on various modern approaches to drug targeting covering today’s options for specific carrier systems allowing successful drug treatment at various sites of the body difficult to address and allowing to increase the benefit-risk-ratio to the optimum possible.
