Systems Biology in Cancer Research and Drug Discovery
Systems Biology in Cancer Research and Drug Discovery provides a unique collection of chapters, by world-class researchers, describing the use of integrated systems biology and network modeling in the cancer field where traditional tools have failed to deliver expected promise. This book touches four applications/aspects of systems biology (i) in understanding aberrant signaling in cancer (ii) in identifying biomarkers and prognostic markers especially focused on angiogenesis pathways (iii) in unwinding microRNAs complexity and (iv) in anticancer drug discovery and in clinical trial design. This book reviews the state-of-the-art knowledge and touches upon cutting edge newer and improved applications especially in the area of network modeling. This book is expected to benefit the field of translational cancer medicine by bridging the gap between basic researchers, computational biologists and clinicians who have one ultimate goal and that is to defeat cancer.
Foodscapes
Since the mid-1990s, the term 'foodscapes' has been used. Its reference to landscape opens it up to a wide theoretical variety and numerous methodological approaches. Through the large 'semantic yard' of the concept of landscape it becomes clear that the approach of foodscapes aims less at the description or pure positivistic analysis of the production, distribution and consumption of food, but is rather open to aesthetic approaches, normative questions, aspects of the connection of food and space with meaning. In this respect, research on foodscapes is not simply a part of food geography but reaches beyond it. With this anthology we contribute to the development of the research field on foodscapes and combine diverse perspectives from different disciplines, locations and theoretical as well as methodological backgrounds on the diversity of what foodscapes can be. Our anthology 'Foodscapes - Theory, History, and Current European Examples' is the result of the collaboration of lecturers and students from the universities of Bucharest, Madrid, Rome and Tübingen.

The European Union and Sustainable Development
The European Union has the ambition to be one of the largest markets and one of the most influential trade actors in the globalized economy, but also the mission to spread the values and principles at the foundations of the European integration process: democracy, the rule of law, respect and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms, environmental protection and sustainable development. This twofold mission is at the origin of the measures which are the object of this book. Traditionally, randomness and determinism have been viewed as being diametrically opposed, based on the idea that causality and determinism is complicated by "noise. Although recent research has suggested that noise can have a productive role, it still views noise as a separate entity. This work suggests that this not need to be so.
