With predation and carnivory as catalysts, the first known eye appeared in a trilobite during the Cambrian explosion approximately 543 million years ago. This period was a crucible of evolution and teemed with anatomic creativity although the journey to formed vision actually began billions of years before that. William Rees (ca. 1787-1843) was born in Wales and married Hannah Roberts (ca. 1797-1884). He died in Treffgarne, Pembrokeshire, Wales. Two sons, James and Thomas, immigrated to Wisconsin in 1849. Descendants lived in Wales, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, Oregon, Western Canada, California, Montana, and elsewhere.
