This book offers a structured algebraic and geometric approach to the classification and construction of quantum codes for topological quantum computation. It combines key concepts in linear algebra, algebraic topology, hyperbolic geometry, group theory, quantum mechanics, and classical and quantum coding theory to help readers understand and develop quantum codes for topological quantum computation. One possible approach to building a quantum computer is based on surface codes, operated as stabilizer codes. The surface codes evolved from Kitaev's toric codes, as a means to developing models for topological order by using qubits distributed on the surface of a toroid. A significant advantage...
This volume contains the proceedings of the Ninth International Conference on Finite Fields and Applications, held in Ireland, July 13-17, 2009. It includes survey papers by all invited speakers as well as selected contributed papers. Finite fields continue to grow in mathematical importance due to applications in many diverse areas. This volume contains a variety of results advancing the theory of finite fields and connections with, as well as impact on, various directions in number theory, algebra, and algebraic geometry. Areas of application include algebraic coding theory, cryptology, and combinatorial design theory.
Written to honor the enduring influence of William Fulton, these articles present substantial contributions to algebraic geometry.
he Brazilian author Clarice Lispector (1920-1977) is arguably Latin America's most celebrated female writer. Yet her prose has remained tantalisingly elusive, resisting any facile appropriation and lending itself to be read in a variety of contexts. Lispector's enigmatic yet luminous writings warrant fresh , multi disciplinary readings. Here, twelve distinguished international scholars discuss the modernity pulsating throughout Lispector's work, examining not only her unconventional novels and famous short stories, but also her chronicles and children's books, in order to reassess her groundbreaking exploration of the fluid catagories of gender and genre, her hybrid textualisations of time, self and nation.
This volume contains the proceedings of the Eighth International Conference on Finite Fields and Applications, held in Melbourne, Australia, July 9-13, 2007. It contains 5 invited survey papers as well as original research articles covering various theoretical and applied areas related to finite fields.Finite fields, and the computational and algorithmic aspects of finite field problems, continue to grow in importance and interest in the mathematical and computer science communities because of their applications in so many diverse areas. In particular, finite fields now play very important roles in number theory, algebra, and algebraic geometry, as well as in computer science, statistics, and engineering. Areas of application include algebraic coding theory, cryptology, and combinatorialdesign theory.
