Mediante ampla pesquisa documental, em um trabalho quase arqueológico de levantamento de fontes, este livro retoma os mecanismos utilizados para a disseminação, via política curricular, de prescrições de ensino relativas ao construtivismo em alfabetização durante quatro governos municipais, demonstrando como essa teoria foi apropriada e ressignificada na convergência e na disputa com outras proposições teóricas.
