The ensembles associated with monastery and parish churches were a very important element of musical life in Central Europe around the mid-eighteenth century. Yet the music created by early Classical composers, which constituted the core of their repertoire, remains poorly explored. Fr. Amandus Ivanschiz OSPPE (1727–1758) was one of such musicians, active in monasteries in Ranna, Wiener Neustadt, Rome, and Graz. Recent findings reveal that he died in 1758 at the young age of 31, which is much earlier than previously thought. Consequently, the dating of his compositions and their position in the context of the transformation of musical language in the middle of the eighteenth century needs to be revisited. This volume is the first to provide a critical evaluation of the attribution of works ascribed to Ivanschiz, which brought to light the true scope and reception of his oeuvre. The fact that there are nearly 300 copies of his works preserved in various archives across eleven European countries indicates that his music was readily performed and disseminated, and places Ivanschiz among the most popular monk-composers of his epoch. A record of the role of selected middle-class individuals across Europe who made notable contributions to the early evolution of modern sport and who saw success in modern sport as an expression of human qualities to be admired, applauded and encouraged. They viewed sport, sometimes self-interestedly but not always self-interestedly, as a medium of personal, collective and national virtue. It is the first general consideration of a selection of these innovatory pioneers and proselytisers who placed Europe at the forefront of major developments in contemporary world sport - now a phenomenon of global significance.
Edwin Maxwell Fry and Jane Drew are two key figures of British architecture in the second half of the twentieth century, their most important work was the book Tropical Architecture in the Dry and Humid Zones, a manual compiled from the experience acquired in Ghana and Nigeria between 1949 and 1960. The manual is the formalisation of a design method specific for tropical areas, the search for a renewed rooting of modern architecture, not based on formal research or the revival of folkloric themes, but on the close relationship between environmental support and anthropic intervention. The design method has its roots in African colonial history and was the result of a long process of adaptation of Western modernist ideas to the extreme climatic conditions of the African continent. A cosmopolitan localism based on the application of science in humanistic terms and capable of combining global and local dimensions was translated into an approach that respected the deep roots of tradition while providing innovation in terms of architectural solutions.

The AAA is a valuable and important publication for all students and scientists working in the fields of astronomy and related sciences. As such it represents a necessary ingredient of any astronomical library all over the world.
Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts is devoted to the recording, summarizing and indexing of astronomical publications throughout the world. Two volumes are scheduled to appear per year. Volume 67 records 10,903 papers covering besides the classical fields of astronomy and astrophysics such matters as space flights related to astronomy, lunar and planetary probes and satellites, meteorites and interplanetary matter, X rays and cosmic rays, quasars and pulsars. The abstracts are classified under more than one hundred subject categories thus permitting quick surveying of the bulk of material published on the same topic within six months. For instance, this volume records 119 papers on minor planets, 155 papers on supernovae, and 554 papers on cosmology.
