This is the story of a child caught in a war. These are memories that I hid at the age of eleven deep within my heart in a box never to be opened again. Meanwhile life continued. I obtained a degree in Architecture and Engineering in Argentina and a degree of Master in City Planning in Berkeley, California. In 1964 in Berkeley I met Charles Joachain, a Belgian Physicist. We were married in 1966; since then I live in Belgium.

WINNER OF THE CILIP CARNEGIE MEDAL 2017 It's early 1945 and a group of people trek across Germany, bound together by their desperation to reach the ship that can take them away from the war-ravaged land. Four young people, each haunted by their own dark secret, narrate their unforgettable stories. Fans of The Book Thief or Helen Dunmore's The Siege will be totally absorbed. This inspirational novel is based on a true story from the Second World War. When the German ship the Wilhelm Gustloff was sunk in port in early 1945 it had over 9000 civilian refugees, including children, on board. Nearly all were drowned. Ruta Sepetys, acclaimed author of Between Shades of Grey, brilliantly imagines their story. 'Ruta Sepetys is a master of historical fiction' Elizabeth Wein, author of CODE NAME VERITY

Internal Coaching: The Inside Story provides a window into the world of internal coaching: the challenges and rewards for the coaches themselves and the ways in which organisations can ensure that they can get best value for money from their investment in them.Internal coaching is booming. A recent survey showed that nearly four fifths of large organisations in the UK believe that internal coaching (that is coaching delivered by one employee to another in a different chain of command) will grow over the next three years. Yet there has been surprisingly little written about the unique nature of the internal coaching role. Drawing on the stories of hundreds of internal coaches, coach sponsors, lead coaches, supervisors of internal coaches and coach trainers, Internal Coaching: The Inside Story gives internal coaches a voice. It makes available to hard-pressed HR directors, talent managers, and learning and development professionals the fruits of very practical research into what is working in organisations and how they might maximise the value for money they get from their investment in internal coaches.

The bestselling memoir of a Jewish pianist who survived the war in Warsaw against all odds. 'We are drawn in to share his surprise and then disbelief at the horrifying progress of events, all conveyed with an understated intimacy and dailiness that render them painfully close... riveting' OBSERVER On September 23, 1939, Wladyslaw Szpilman played Chopin's Nocturne in C-sharp minor live on the radio as shells exploded outside - so loudly that he couldn't hear his piano. It was the last live music broadcast from Warsaw: That day, a German bomb hit the station, and Polish Radio went off the air. Though he lost his entire family, Szpilman survived in hiding. In the end, his life was saved by a German officer who heard him play the same Chopin Nocturne on a piano found among the rubble. Written immediately after the war and suppressed for decades, THE PIANIST is a stunning testament to human endurance and the redemptive power of fellow feeling. 'The images drawn are unusually sharp and clear... but its moral tone is even more striking: Szpilman refuses to make a hero or a demon out of anyone' LITERARY REVIEW

Embedding sustainable development across Government, after the Secretary of State's announcement on the future of the Sustainable Development Commission

Funding of the Sustainable Development Commission (SDC) will cease at the end of March 2011, and Defra's capability and presence to improve the sustainability of Government will be increased. Whilst regretting the Government's decision to stop funding the SDC, the Committee sees an opportunity to reassess and revitalise the architecture for delivering sustainable development. The experience of SDC's work within Government departments to improve their sustainability skills and performance is at risk of being lost, so the Government must ensure that this knowledge and expertise is absorbed by departments. Sustainable development needs to be driven from the centre of Government by a Minister an...
