A House Deconstructed
This book ‘deconstructs’ a single recently constructed house located in Seattle, WA, in an attempt to recover its backstory. The information is presented along four vectors – atoms, labors, sources and ingredients. Though remarkably detailed, the A House Deconstructed contends that a huge proportion of what we ‘know’ about the house is unknowable, not because our epistemological instruments aren’t strong enough or calibrated precisely enough, but because things themselves are indeterminate, uncertain. This begs the question about agency. If we are to critique our profession and even improve some of its claims about Sustainability, then we must develop a more robust understanding of the building industry and the sourcing and making of materials. We must even develop a stronger awareness of the history of atoms and how architecture brings that history into a remarkable focus.
The Art of Giving Back

Perspectives on Countering Extremism
The study of violent extremism has seen a great deal of academic and practitioner focus on the processes of radicalization, and strategies to counter and de-radicalize extremists. Comparatively, little has been written on the subject of Diversion – early, upstream interventions aimed at deflecting individuals from a pathway of radicalization. This volume addresses this gap in scholarship by analyzing the strategies being deployed worldwide, aimed at diverting or deflecting individuals, and communities, from the path of radicalization. Disengagement – which is often necessary when one has already progressed past the 'at-risk' stage – is also addressed, given that social workers, counselors and other practitioners do not necessarily find the distinction between the two a critical issue in practice. What matters is which upstream approaches work, and what shows promise, amongst individuals and communities. Case studies range across the Global North and South, presented by both academics and practitioners. Contributions address approaches that have proven useful, strategies which should be given deeper scrutiny before being employed – and what should be avoided.
BISIC 2020
The Faculty of Economics and Business Bengkulu University (UNIB) Provinsi Bengkulu, Indonesia, organized the 3rd Beehive International Social Innovation Conference (BISIC) 2020 on 3rd- 4th Oct 2020 in Bengkulu, Indonesia. The number of participants who joined the zoom room was recorded at 450 participants. Participants came from 4 countries, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand. BISIC 2020 is implemented with the support of a stable internet network system and a zoom application. In the implementation there were several technical obstacles encountered by the participants, namely the difficulty of joining the zoom application due to the unstable internet signal. The holding of a virtual conference felt less meaningful, due to the lack of interaction between speakers and participants. The BICED 2020 committee 30 papers were presented and discussed. The papers were authored by researchers from Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines and Indonesian. All papers have been scrutinized by a panel of reviewers who provide critical comments and corrections, and thereafter contributed to the improvement of the quality of the papers.
