This book presents a comparative analysis of the organizing trajectories of indigenous women’s movements in Peru, Mexico, and Bolivia. The authors’ innovative research reveals how the articulation of gender and ethnicity is central to shape indigenous women’s discourses. It explores the political contexts and internal dynamics of indigenous movements, to show that they created different opportunities for women to organize and voice specific demands. This, in turn, led to various forms of organizational autonomy for women involved in indigenous movements. The trajectories vary from the creation of autonomous spaces within mixed-gender organizations to the creation of independent organizations. Another pattern is that of women’s organizations maintaining an affiliation to a male-dominated mixed-gender organization, or what the authors call “gender parallelism”. This book illustrates how, in the last two decades, indigenous women have challenged various forms of exclusion through different strategies, transforming indigenous movements’ organizations and collective identities.

Founded in Paris by Sandra Barclay and Jean Pierre Crousse in 1994, the firm relocated to Lima, Peru, in 2006, pursuing their projects in Europe through Atelier Nord-Sud. This book presents 12 buildings illustrated through sketches, plans and over 120 photographs by Chilean photographer Cristóbal Palma. The new Peruvian cuisine

The book is intended to be, not considered as a recipe list, neither as the development of regional cuisine history, as well as the discussion of food inputs. On the contrary, the main objective is to analyse the consolidation of the new Peruvian cuisine as a national and global brand, considering evolutive components such as internal migration, the hybridization of diverse internal and international sources to explain the Peruvian culinary "boom". The book blends together the Altamirano's efforts, father, and son, to analyse facts barely known of the national food industriy, like the palpable stagnation and decline of the so called "nueva cocina peruana". At the same time, the book highlights the book of la "nueva cocina peruana" around the world, namely in countries where reside most Peruvians such as USA, European Union, Japan, Chle and Argentina.

It illuminates what is at stake in our understanding of the relationship between the virtual and the real, showing how our present technologies both enhance and diminish our psychologica...

Technocracy and Democracy in Latin America

Through an in-depth analysis of economic and health policy in Colombia from 1958 to 2011 and in Peru from 1980 to 2011, Technocracy and Democracy in Latin America explains the source of these experts' power as well as the leverage they have across state policy sectors in Latin America.

Narrative of the Incas

One of the earliest chronicles of the Inca empire was written in the 1550s by Juan de Betanzos. Although scholars have long known of this work, only eighteen chapters were actually available until the 1980s when the remaining sixty-four chapters were discovered in the collection of the Fundación Bartolomé March in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. Narrative of the Incas presents the first complete English translation of the original manuscript of this key document. Although written by a Spaniard, it presents an authentic Inca worldview, drawn from the personal experiences and oral traditions told to Betanzos by his Inca wife, Doña Angelina, and other members of her aristocratic family who lived during the reigns of the last Inca rulers, Huayna Capac Huascar and Atahualpa. Betanzos wrote a history of the Inca empire that focuses on the major rulers and the contributions each one made to the growth of the empire and of Inca culture. Filled with new insights into Inca politics, marriage, laws, the calendar, warfare, and other matters, Narrative of the Incas is essential reading for everyone interested in this ancient civilization.
