Decades later, in 1967, their son Daniel struggles to understand the tragedy of their lives. But while he is tormented by his past and trying to appreciate his own wife and son, Daniel is also haunted, like millions of others, by the need to come to terms with a country destroying itself in the Vietnam War. Willy Fleckhaus (1925-1983) was one of the most innovative, creative and influential graphic designers in postwar Germany. He became internationally known for his groundbreaking work on the lifestyle magazine Twen, which attracted generations of readers with its generous layouts, modern typography and distinctive choice of house photographers such as (among others) Will McBride, Charlotte March, Guido Mangold, Reinhart Wolf. He invented the position of the art director, when this job description did not yet exist in Germany and earned himself the nickname of "Germany's most expensive pencil." Beside his longterm involvement with Twen he worked for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Magazine (from 1980 onwards), the magazine Quick, developed book series such as Edition Suhrkamp with its famous rainbow-coloured covers, exhibition designs for the Photokina trade fair in Cologne, and the logo of the Westdeutscher Rundfunk broadcasting corporation. The book, the first comprehensive monograph on Willy Fleckhaus in an international edition, includes texts by Michael Koetzle and Carsten Wolff (who also took over the book design), both long time collectors of Fleckhaus work samples.

How best to adapt established companies to a rapidly changing economy has long been a topic of debate in both the corporate and academic worlds. This challenge is especially pressing for large organizations that may have grown top-heavy and rigid with time but now need to be light on their feet to stay relevant and profitable. Until now, the best attempts have consisted of plucking tools and methods from the world of start-ups and applying them wholesale in large corporate environments. Most of these efforts have either fizzled or failed outright because they lacked a framework for a comprehensive corporation-sized rollout. »The Loop Approach« introduces a new series of methods that could help change the course of operations for even the most colossal organizations. Sebastian Klein and Ben Hughes provide a wide-ranging set of guidelines for achieving corporate agility, complete with checklists and worksheets that should prove instantly applicable. Want proof? The methods outlined in »The Loop Approach« have already been successfully implemented at such European corporate giants as Audi, Deutsche Bahn, and Telekom.

This introduction to elementary signal processing connects theory and application, and bridges instruction between a book and a CD-ROM packed with video, software and more. The result is a unique, non-mathematical learning system using concepts drawn from modern brain research. Readers use the popular DasyLab metrology and control engineering program to develop applications. Processing of real signals is enabled via the sound card and the parallel port. Two hundred pre-programmed signal engineering systems and design transparencies are provided on the CD-ROM. There are numerous videos, more than 250 photos, and - most important – all "living" experiments and their results are visualized.
