Difficult and Severe Asthma in Children

Difficult and Severe Asthma in Children

Globally, severe asthma is defined by the WHO as either (A) untreated severe asthma; (B) difficult-to-treat severe asthma; and (C) treatment-resistant severe asthma. Untreated severe asthma is a political problem: the children do not have access to the basic tools for asthma management, and when this is corrected, asthma outcomes are transformed. The problem in difficult-to-treat severe asthma is not the airway disease, but co-morbidities and behavioral factors. This is the group in which there are most asthma deaths, underscoring that severe asthma cannot be solely defined by levels of prescribed therapy. Treatment-resistant severe asthma is rare and challenging, and the problem is the airway pathology. These children require new and innovative therapies.

The Parallel March of Asthma and Allergy in Childhood: A Multi-Perspective Approach

It has not been yet clarified whether allergy and asthma are part of the same condition or they follow a parallel path. This Research Topic aims to try and put some light in this parallel march going through crucial topics: from prenatal events to later risk factors such as obesity; and from basic immunology to immunotherapy, both subcutaneous and sublingual. We hope the readers can infer their own conclusions as what is first: egg or chicken.

Frontiers in Clinical Drug Research – Anti Allergy Agents

Frontiers in Clinical Drug Research - Anti-Allergy Agents is an exciting eBook series comprising a selection of updated review articles relevant to the recent development of pharmacological agents used for the treatment of allergies. The scope of the reviews includes clinical trials of anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic drugs, drug delivery strategies used to treat specific allergies (such as inflammation, asthma and dermatological allergies), lifestyle dependent modes of therapies and the immunological or metabolic mechanisms that are of interest to researchers as targets for new drugs. The first volume of this series sheds light on new therapies that can be employed for allergic reactions in patients (both traditional and non-traditional therapies), nutrition based therapies and the use of substances such as omalizumab and adrenaline to counter inflammatory response and anaphylaxis in patients. Frontiers in Clinical Drug Research - Anti-Allergy Agents will be of interest to immunologists and drug discovery researchers interested in anti-allergic drug therapy as the series provides relevant cutting edge reviews written by experts in this rapidly expanding field.

Textbook of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Vols 1 and 2

This book published in two volumes. Both volume divided in twenty three sections, all sections and chapters are most important. The Textbook of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine also offers a unique exposure to the problems in many parts of the world. Tuberculosis, the “number one” treatable condition has been extensively covered; and special topics such as multi-drug resistance, directly observed therapy, TB prevention, nonpharmacologic approaches and extapulmonary tuberculosis are particularly relevant. Many countries are facing a growing burden of noncommunicable respiratory diseases. They have become the second leading cause of death after injuries, and their impact on indirect co...

Here is an in-depth and informative introduction to dietary fibers and food supplements, elaborating on their uses and benefits in the prevention and treatment of such health issues and diseases as diabetes, obesity, coronary heart disease, colorectal and other types of cancer, and gut health. The book also discusses the formulation-based approaches for the delivery of food supplements and dietary fibers as well as the use of botanicals in dietary supplements and fibers. The chapter on regulatory guidance of food supplement and dietary fiber discusses the current statutes and regulations addressing dietary ingredients, manufacturing standards, safety, labelling, and claims. The book explains how dietary fibers and food supplements work to maintain gut health, addressing such issues as constipation, loose stools, inflammatory bowel diseases, hiatal hernias, gastroesophageal reflux disease, Barrett’s esophagus, diverticular disease, hemorrhoids, peptic ulcers, gastritis, celiac disease, gallstones, and colon cancer.

The use of novel materials and new structural concepts nowadays is not restricted to highly technical areas like aerospace, aeronautical applications or the automotive industry, but affects all engineering fields including those such as civil engineering and architecture. The included contributions highlight the latest developments in design and manufacturing. Most high-performance structures require the development of a generation of new materials, which can more easily resist a range of external stimuli or react in a non-conventional manner. Particular emphasis is placed on intelligent structures and materials as well as the application of computational methods for their modelling, control...

Clinical Immunology

Clinical Immunology not only introduces the reader to the human immune system, it also covers immunology from clinical manifestation to therapeutic approaches in a wide range of conditions. Each chapter describes an introduction, the clinical manifestations, the immunopathogenesis, diagnosis, lab tests and therapeutic approaches. The book guides clinicians, researchers and students to a better understanding of the matters of immunologic-based diseases that can lead to better decision-making for patients.Because of the growing knowledge regarding the function of immune system in health and disease conditions, clinicians, researchers and students increasingly require an exclusive scientific re...

Neuroimaging, Part Two, a volume in The Handbook of Clinical Neurology series, illustrates how neuroimaging is rapidly expanding its reach and applications in clinical neurology. It is an ideal resource for anyone interested in the study of the nervous system, and is useful to both beginners in various related fields and to specialists who want to update or refresh their knowledge base on neuroimaging. This second volume covers imaging of the adult spine and peripheral nervous system, as well as pediatric neuroimaging. In addition, it provides an overview of the differential diagnosis of the most common imaging findings, such as ring enhancement on MRI, and a review of the indications for im...

International Conference on Ignition Systems for Gasoline Engines – International Conference on Knocking in Gasoline Engines

For decades, scientists and engineers have been working to increase the efficiency of internal combustion engines. For spark-ignition engines, two technical questions in particular are always in focus: 1. How can the air/fuel mixture be optimally ignited under all possible conditions? 2. How can undesirable but recurrent early and self-ignitions in the air/fuel mixture be avoided? Against the background of the considerable efficiency increases currently being sought in the context of developments and the introduction of new fuels, such as hydrogen, methanol, ammonia and other hydrogen derivatives as well as biofuels, these questions are more in the focus than ever. In order to provide a perfect exchange platform for the community of combustion process and system developers from research and development, IAV has organized this combined conference, chaired by Marc Sens. The proceedings presented here represent the collection of all the topics presented at the event and are thus intended to serve as an inspiration and pool of ideas for all interested parties.
