Comprehensive Hard Materials, Three Volume Set deals with the production, uses and properties of the carbides, nitrides and borides of these metals and those of titanium, as well as tools of ceramics, the superhard boron nitrides and diamond and related compounds. Articles include the technologies of powder production (including their precursor materials), milling, granulation, cold and hot compaction, sintering, hot isostatic pressing, hot-pressing, injection moulding, as well as on the coating technologies for refractory metals, hard metals and hard materials. The characterization, testing, quality assurance and applications are also covered. Comprehensive Hard Materials provides meaningfu...
This volume constitutes the proceedings of the 7th International Symposium on the Fracture Mechanics of Ceramics, held at the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, Russia, on July 20-22, 1999. The theme of the symposium focused on the mechanical behavior of advanced ceramics in terms of the cracks, particularly the crack-microstructure interaction, delayed failure, and environmental effects in fracture. Special attention was paid to the novel methods in fracture mechanics testing, pre-standardization and standardization. Authors from 19 countries represented the current state of the field.

This collection of 33 papers deals with mechanical behaviors associated with systems ranging from diamond reinforced silicon carbide to rare earth pyrosilicates. Presented at The Mechanical Behavior and Performance of Ceramics & Composites Symposium in January 2012 during the 36th International Conference on Advanced Ceramics and Composites (ICACC), it offers researchers from around the world the opportunity to explore new and emerging issues in all aspects of the field.
The Ceramic Engineering and Science Proceeding has been published by The American Ceramic Society since 1980. This series contains a collection of papers dealing with issues in both traditional ceramics (i.e., glass, whitewares, refractories, and porcelain enamel) and advanced ceramics. Topics covered in the area of advanced ceramic include bioceramics, nanomaterials, composites, solid oxide fuel cells, mechanical properties and structural design, advanced ceramic coatings, ceramic armor, porous ceramics, and more.
This book provides an introduction to Acoustic Emission Testing and its applications to different materials like concrete, steel, ceramics, geotechnical materials, polymers, biological structures and wood. Acoustic Emission Techniques (AET) techniques have been studied in engineering for a long time. The techniques are applied more and more to practical investigations and are more and more standardized in codes. This is because the degradation of structures due to ageing urgently demand for maintenance and rehabilitation of structures in service. It results in the need for the development of advanced and efficient inspection techniques. In mechanical engineering and concerning the monitoring...
Recent developments in advanced ceramics are critically evaluated in respect to their thermal shock and thermal fatigue behavior from an interdisciplinary viewpoint by leading experts. The book covers the aspects of material development, mechanical and fracture mechanical models and experimental testing methods. Special emphasis is given to the influence of a rising crack resistance on the thermal shock behavior, novel irradiation testing methods for a quantitative characterization of the thermal shock and fatigue loading as well as detailed fracture mechanical models for single and multiple crack propagation. This book summarizes developments of the last decade concerning the thermal shock ...
A collection of papers from The American Ceramic Society s 32nd International Conference on Advanced Ceramics and Composites, held in Daytona Beach, Florida, January 27-February 1, 2008. Topics include basic and applied research in nanomaterials such as synthesis, functionalization, processing, and characterization; structure-property correlations; bio- and magnetic nanomaterials; nanostructured materials for chemical mechanical planarization, display, health, and cosmetic applications; nanotubes and nanowires; and industrial development.
Composite materials are engineered from two or more constituents with significantly altered physical or chemical properties within the finished structure. Due to their special mechanical and physical properties they have the potential to replace conventional materials. This book, written by experts from all over the world, presents fundamentals and recent advances on ceramic matrix composites.
