La historia de la preparación del Congreso de Zacatecas es breve e intensa. Se inició a comienzos del decenio de los noventa con la celebración del Congreso de la Lengua Española, en Sevilla, en 1992, con motivo de los actos de clausura de la Exposición Universal. Este Congreso solicitó que México fuera sede del Primer Congreso Internacional de la Lengua Española. Para participar en la inauguración fueron invitados los tres premios Nobel de Literatura de habla española, Gabriel García Márquez, Camilo José Cela y Octavio Paz. Este Congreso dispuso la organización de tres mesas redondas: Las academias de la lengua y los medios de comunicación; La dimensión internacional de la lengua española y Los medios de comunicación y el futuro de la lengua española.

New Insights in the History of Interpreting
Who mediated intercultural exchanges in 9th-century East Asia or in early voyages to the Americas? Did the Soviets or the Americans invent simultaneous interpreting equipment? How did the US government train its first Chinese interpreters? Why is it that Taiwanese interpreters were executed for Japanese war crimes? Bringing together papers from an international symposium held at Rikkyo University in 2014 along with two select pieces, this volume pursues such questions in an eclectic exploration of the practice of interpreting, the recruitment of interpreters, and the challenges interpreters have faced in diplomacy, colonization, religion, war, and occupation. Frantz Fanon
Focusing on the contributions of Frantz Fanon's writing to the construction of a theory of the postcolonial subject, this book engages post-structuralist discussions on subjectivity and explores the most important readings and discussions of Fanon's work. Problems such as historicity, contingency, and the positions of the subject in postcolonial contexts receive special attention together with phenomenological approaches to Fanonian writing. The central idea is to give Fanon a privileged place in social, political, and cultural analysis. The objectives of the book are to insert Fanon’s texts in contemporary critical theory on modernity and coloniality and to incorporate Fanon in the epistemological and conceptual context of the academy. This innovative work allows us to understand Fanon’s writing as key to linking the experiences and critical developments between the global south and the global north.
