Discrete Mathematical Problems with Medical Applications

This volume presents selected papers from a three-day workshop held during the DIMACS special years on Mathematical Support for Molecular Biology. Participants from the world over attended, giving the workshop an important international component. The study of discrete mathematics and optimization with medical applications is emerging as an important new research area. Significant applications have been found in medical research, for example in radiosurgical treatment planning, virtual endoscopy, and more. This volume presents a substantive cross-section of active research topics ranging from medical imaging to human anatomy modelling, from gamma knife treatment planning to radiation therapy, and from epileptic seizures to DNA screening. This book is an up-to-date resource reflecting current research directions.

Discrete Geometry and Mathematical Morphology

This book constitutes the proceedings of the First IAPR International Conference on Discrete Geometry and Mathematical Morphology, DGMM 2021, which was held during May 24-27, 2021, in Uppsala, Sweden. The conference was created by joining the International Conference on Discrete Geometry for computer Imagery, DGCI, with the International Symposium on Mathematical Morphology, ISMM. The 36 papers included in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 59 submissions. They were organized in topical sections as follows: applications in image processing, computer vision, and pattern recognition; discrete and combinatorial topology; discrete geometry - models, transforms, visualization; discrete tomography and inverse problems; hierarchical and graph-based models, analysis and segmentation; learning-based approaches to mathematical morphology; multivariate and PDE-based mathematical morphology, morphological filtering. The book also contains 3 invited keynote papers.

Medial Representations

The last half century has seen the development of many biological or physical t- ories that have explicitly or implicitly involved medial descriptions of objects and other spatial entities in our world. Simultaneously mathematicians have studied the properties of these skeletal descriptions of shape, and, stimulated by the many areas where medial models are useful, computer scientists and engineers have developed numerous algorithms for computing and using these models. We bring this kno- edge and experience together into this book in order to make medial technology more widely understood and used. The book consists of an introductory chapter, two chapters on the major mat- matical results o...

Image Analysis And Processing Iciap 2005

This volume contains the Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Image Analysis and Processing (ICIAP 2005), held in Cagliari, Italy, at the conference centre “Centro della Cultura e dei Congressi”, on September 6–8, 2005. ICIAP 2005 was the thirteenth edition of a series of conferences organized every two years by the Italian group of researchersa?liated to the International Association for Pattern Recognition (GIRPR) with the aim to bring together researchers in image processing and pattern recognition from around the world. As for the previous editions, conference topics concerned the theory of image analysis and processing and its classical and Internet-driven applicati...

Computer Vision and Graphics

As the speed, capabilities, and economic advantages of modern digital devices c- tinue to grow, the need for ef?cient information processing, especially in computer - sion and graphics, dramatically increases. Growth in these ?elds stimulated by eme- ing applications has been both in concepts and techniques. New ideas, concepts and techniques are developed, presented, discussed and evaluated, subsequently expanded or abandoned. Such processes take place in different forms in various ?elds of the c- puter science and technology. The objectives of the ICCVG are: presentation of current research topics and d- cussions leading to the integration of the community engaged in machine vision and computer graphics, carrying out and supporting research in the ?eld and ?nally pro- tion of new applications. The ICCVG is a continuation of the former International Conference on Computer Graphics and Image Processing called GKPO, held in Poland every second year in May since 1990, organized by the Institute of Computer Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw and chaired by the Editor of the International Journal of Machine Graphics and Vision, Prof. Wojciech S. Mokrzycki.

CARS 2002 Computer Assisted Radiology and Surgery

Progess in specific computer-assisted techniques (digital imaging , computer-aided diagnosis, image-guided surgery, MEMS, etc.) combined with computer-assisted integration tools offers a valuable complement to or replacement for existing procedures in healthcare. Physicians are now employing PACS and telemedicine systems as enabling infrastructures to improve quality of and access to healthcare. Tools based on CAD and CAS facilitate completely new paths in patient care. To ensure that CARS tools benefit the patient, collaboration between various disciplines, specifically radiology, surgery, engineering, informatics, and healthcare management, is a critical factor. A multidisciplinary congress like CARS is a step in the desired direction of knowledge sharing and crossover education. It provides the necessary cooperative framework for advancing the development and application of modern computer-assisted technologies in healthcare.

The mid-1990ssaw an exciting convergenceof a number of dieren t information protection technologies, whose theme was the hiding (as opposed to encryption) of information. Copyright marking schemes are about hiding either copyright notices or individual serial numbers imperceptibly in digital audio and video, as a component in intellectual property protection systems; anonymous c- munication is another area of rapid growth, with people designing systems for electronic cash, digital elections, and privacy in mobile communications; se- rity researchers are also interested in ‘stray’ communication channels, such as those which arise via shared resourcesin operating systems or the physical le...

This volume presents the proceedings of the 10th International Conference on Computer Analysis of Images and Patterns (CAIP 2003). This conference - ries started about 18 years ago in Berlin. Initially, the conference served as a forum for meetings between scientists from Western- and Eastern-bloc co- tries. Nowadays, the conference attracts participants from all over the world. The conference gives equal weight to posters and oral presentations, and the selected presentation mode is based on the most appropriate communication medium. The programme follows a single-track format, rather than parallel s- sions. Non-overlapping oral and poster sessions ensure that all attendees have the opportu...
