Multidimensional Liquid Chromatography

Multidimensional Liquid Chromatography (MDLC) is a very powerful separation technique for analyzing exceptionally complex samples in one step. This authoritative reference presents a number of recent contributions that help define the current art and science of MDLC. Topics covered include instrumentation, theory, methods development, and applications of MDLC in the life sciences and in industrial chemistry. With the information to help you perform very difficult separations of complex samples, this reference includes chapters contributed by leading experts or teams of experts.

Scanning Force Microscopy of Polymers

Scope of the Book Synthetic and natural polymers exhibit a complex structural and morphological hierarchy on multiple length scales [1], which determines their performance. Thus, research aiming at visualizing structure and morphology using a multitude of microscopy techniques has received considerable attention since the early days of polymer science and technology. Various well-developed techniques such as optical microscopy and different forms of electron microscopy (Scanning Electron Micr- copy, SEM; Transmission Electron Microscopy, TEM; Environmental Scanning Electron Microscopy, ESEM) allow one to view polymeric structure at different levels of magni?cation. These classical techniques...

Interfacial Phenomena in Chromatography presents a combination of chromatographic theory, numerical simulation and experimental data. The text covers the interaction and size exclusion methods of separation, identification and characterization of substances in solution. It provides practical information and analysis on the most effective mechanisms of interfacial chromatography, along with its expanding possibilities for biomedical, industrial and environmental applications.

The two companion volumes of "Advances in Polymer Science" - Volumes 150 and 151 - deal with recent progress in the characterization of polymers, mostly in solution but also at surfaces. The contributions comprise multidimensional chromatography for elucidation, the composition and the chain length distribution of copolymers, capillary electrophoresis of synthetic water-soluble polymers including polyelectrolytes, field flow fractionation techniques for quick and reliable separation and characterization of broad polymer samples and a novel application of thermal grating experiments for probing Brownian and thermal diffusion. Finally the rapid development of atomic forces techniques is reviewed with particular emphasis on the visualization of macromolecules and the patterning of surfaces.

Molecular Characterization of Polymers presents a range of advanced and cutting-edge methods for the characterization of polymers at the molecular level, guiding the reader through theory, fundamentals, instrumentation, and applications, and supporting the end goal of efficient material selection and improved material performance. Each chapter focuses on a specific technique or family of techniques, including the different areas of chromatography, field flow fractionation, long chain branching, static and dynamic light scattering, mass spectrometry, NMR, X-Ray and neutron scattering, polymer dilute solution viscometry, microscopy, and vibrational spectroscopy. In each case, in-depth coverage...

Analytical Ultracentrifugation of Polymers and Nanoparticles

This book is divided into chapters covering instrumentation, sedimentation velocity runs, density gradient runs, application examples and future developments. In particular, the detailed application chapter demonstrates the versatility and power of AUC by means of many interesting and important industrial examples. Thus the book concentrates on practical aspects rather than details of centrifugation theory.

Light Scattering from Polymer Solutions and Nanoparticle Dispersions

Light scattering is a very powerful method for characterizing the structure of polymers and nanoparticles in solution. As part of the Springer Laboratory series, this book provides a simple-to-read and illustrative textbook probing the seemingly very complicated topic of light scattering from polymers and nanoparticles in dilute solution, and goes further to cover some of the latest technical developments in experimental light scattering.

Polyolefin Characterization

The First International Conference on Polyolefin Characterization (ICPC) held in Houston, Texas, in October 2006, was organized to fill the important industrial and academic need for a discussion forum on the characterization and fractionation techniques of polyolefins. These proceedings represent an excellent and up-to-date overview of recent advances in this important area, providing much information and facts that are not available elsewhere. The result is a collection of top quality contributions by experienced editors and international authors on such fields as separation and fractionation, high throughput processes, thermal and crystallinity analysis, spectroscopy and rheology. Equally of high interest for the polymer industry.

Fundamentals of Latex Film Formation

This book has emerged out of our long-time research interests on the topic of latex film formation. Over the years we have built up a repertoire of slides used in conference presentations, short courses and tutorials on the topic. The story presented in this book has thereby taken shape as it has been told and re-told to a mix of academic and industrial audiences. The book presents a wide body of work accumulated by the polymer colloids community over the past five decades, but the selection of examples has been flavoured by our particular experimental interests and development of mathematical models. We intend the book to be a starting point for academic and industrial scientists beginning research on latex film formation. The emphasis is on fundam- tal mechanisms, however, and not on applications nor on specific effects of formu- tions. We hope that the book consolidates the understanding that has been achieved to-date in the literature in a more comprehensive way than is possible in a review article. We trust that the reader will appreciate the fascination of the topic.
