Over the last decade, astrophysical observations of neutron stars — both as isolated and binary sources — have paved the way for a deeper understanding of the structure and dynamics of matter beyond nuclear saturation density. The mapping between astrophysical observations and models of dense matter based on microscopic dynamics has been poorly investigated so far. However, the increased accuracy of present and forthcoming observations may be instrumental in resolving the degeneracy between the predictions of different equations of state. Astrophysical and laboratory probes have the potential to paint to a new coherent picture of nuclear matter — and, more generally, strong interaction...
Recently, exciting new notions have been emerging in theoretical physics. The quantum nature of gravitation revealed in the physics of black holes, exotic excitations obeying fractional statistics, and integrable structure such as Yangian symmetry in low-dimensional models are some of the subjects presented in this volume.The spectrum of the talks at the School, reflected in the proceedings, is a wide one ranging from the phenomenology of particle physics to that of condensed matter physics, to topics of a mathematical nature. This is an indication that there is a robust interplay of ideas from diverse disciplines of theoretical physics in the Asia-Pacific region.
This volume contains contributions which are largely focused on strong coupling gauge theories and the search of theories beyond the standard model, as well as new aspects in hot and dense QCD — particularly in view of the LHC experiments and the lattice studies of conformal fixed point.It contains, among others, many of the latest and important reports on walking technicolor and related subjects in the general context of conformality, discussions of phenomenological implications with the LHC, as well as the theoretical ones through lattice studies. Nonperturbative studies like lattice simulations and stringy/holographic approaches are extensively elaborated in close relation to phenomenological studies. Also, heavy ion experiments at LHC are discussed in such nonperturbative approaches.
The purpose of the Workshop is to have intensive discussions on both theoretical and phenomenological aspects of strong coupling gauge theories (SCGTs), with particular emphasis on the model buildings to be tested in the LHC experiments. Dynamical issues are discussed in lattice simulations and various analytical methods. This proceedings volume is a collection of the presentations made at the Workshop by many leading scientists in the field.

Since 1975, the Marcel Grossmann Meetings have been organized to provide opportunities for discussing recent advances in gravitation, general relativity and relativistic field theories, emphasizing mathematical foundations, physical predictions and experimental tests. The objective of these meetings is to facilitate exchange among scientists that may deepen our understanding of space-time structures and to review the status of ongoing experiments aimed at testing Einstein's theory of gravitation from either the ground or space.The Eighth Marcel Grossmann Meeting took place on 22-27 June, 1997, at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. The scientific program included 25 plenary talks and 40 parallel sessions during which 400 papers were presented. The papers that appear in this book cover all aspects of gravitation, from mathematical issues to recent observations and experiments.
