A self-portrait of the warm, wise woman who created the therapy that bears her name. Here, Ida Rolf tells of her life and the wonder of the human body, and explains her technique of manipulating muscle tissue to induce correct alignment in the body.
Forty-three contributors, former colleagues and students, discuss the life and teachings of the world-famous bodywork pioneer Ida P. Rolf. Ranging from short anecdotes to longer stories and tributes, they begin in the 1950s, when Rolf first began teaching, and continue through the 1970s, to the foundation of the Rolf Institute, and Rolf's death in 1979. Together, they vividly capture the pioneering early days of the Human Potential Movement at the Esalen Institute and elsewhere. This affectionate portrait of a charismatic, challenging and brilliant healer celebrates the centenary of her birth.
This seminal work made its debut in 1977, and it has since remained the most important reference for Rolfers around the world. In this new edition, the late Dr. Rolf illustrates her theory and practice of Structural Integration, which brings the body into alignment and balance by manipulation of the connective tissue. Rolfing has helped thousands of people to stand taller, look better, move with greater ease, and have a greater sense of vitality and well-being. This is the original and classic text, with more than 600 illustrations and photographs. An indispensible reference for the hundreds of Rolfers in this country, it will also appeal to other professional bodyworkers and the interested lay person.

This volume therefore brings together contributors from diverse backgrounds who share the desire to bridge the gap between theory and practice in our current knowledge of the fascia and goes beyond the 2007, 2009 and 2012 co...
The March 2021 issue (Volume 49, No. 1) of Structure, Function, Integration: Journal of the Dr. Ida Rolf Institute(R) focuses on theme of the head and the sensory organs housed within the head. Dr. Rolf called the head "the upper pole." She wanted an upright ease in gravity, where support below let the head lift effortlessly toward the sky. Her work with the head was comprehensive: both external fascial structures and the legendary intraoral and intranasal work. Structural integration was the goal, but with the implicit understanding that something more - something evolutionary - was possible for humans as our heads truly began to crown our structures. Now in the technological age, the life ...
