Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment of Disabled Persons
Presents a general survey on the Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (Disabled Persons) Convention, 1983 (No. 159) and Recommendation No. 168. Defines key terms and expressions of the instruments, and describes the provisions within the standards and the relevant national legislation in the countries that have ratified this Convention. Considers vocational rehabilitation from the stand point of social security schemes. Discusses member States' obligations to implement national policy on vocational rehabilitation, the means by which national policy can be developed and difficulties encountered by member States in the application of the instruments.

This manual draws on the ILO's comprehensive database containing the principal legal provisions and minimum wage fixing mechanisms in 100 countries. The minimum wage has had a long and turbulent history, and this study sheds light on its intricacies by providing a thorough overview of the institutions and practices in different countries. It outlines the main topics for debate concerning the effects of minimum wages on major social and economic variables such as employment, wage inequality, and poverty. The book considers the various procedures countries use for implementation, including the criteria employed to fix the minimum wage, and how they are linked to specific country objectives. It then measures the efficiency of the minimum wage, and focuses on its impact on employment as a major political issue. For the benefit of non-specialists, the validity of econometric models and their results are examined.
Monitoring International Labor Standards
The NRC has convened the Committee on Monitoring International Labor Standards to provide expert, science-based advice on monitoring compliance with international labor standards. The committee held a workshop in July 2002 to assess the quality of information and measures of progress towards compliance with international labor standards. This document summarizes the workshop. Reflecting the workshop agenda, this report focuses primarily on the availability and quality of information to measure compliance with four core international labor standards that were identified in 1998 by the ILO. The goal of this workshop summary is to communicate the key ideas and themes that emerged from the workshop presentations and discussions.
