Interpolation of Functions
This book gives a systematic survey on the most significant results of interpolation theory in the last forty years. It deals with Lagrange interpolation including lower estimates, fine and rough theory, interpolatory proofs of Jackson and Teliakovski-Gopengauz theorems, Lebesgue function, Lebesgue constant of Lagrange interpolation, Bernstein and Erdös conjecture on the optimal nodes, the almost everywhere divergence of Lagrange interpolation for arbitrary system of nodes, Hermite-Fejer type and lacunary interpolation and other related topics.
Global Smoothness and Shape Preserving Interpolation by Classical Operators
This monograph examines in detail two aspects in the field of interpolation of functions -the Global Smoothness Preservation Property (GSPP) and the Shape Preservation Property (SPP). By considering well-known classical interpolation operators such as Lagrange, Grünwald, Hermite-Fejér and Shepard type, the study is mainly developed for the univariate and bivariate cases. One of the first books on the subject, it presents to the reader, recent work featuring many new interesting results in this field, including an excellent survey of past research. A Tribute to Paul Erdos
This volume is dedicated to Paul Erdos, who profoundly influenced mathematics in the twentieth century, with over 1200 papers in number theory, complex analysis, probability theory, geometry, interpretation theory, algebra set theory and combinatorics. One of Erdos' hallmarks was the host of stimulating problems and conjectures, to many of which he attached monetary prices, in accordance with their notoriety. A feature of this volume is a collection of some 50 outstanding unsolved problems, together with their 'value'! Rational Approximation of Real Functions
This 1987 book examines the approximation of real functions by real rational functions. These are a more convenient tool than polynomials, and interest in them was growing, especially after D. Newman's work in the mid-sixties. The authors present the basic achievements of the subject and also discuss some topics from complex rational approximation.
