Equidistribution in Number Theory, An Introduction

This set of lectures provides a structured introduction to the concept of equidistribution in number theory. This concept is of growing importance in many areas, including cryptography, zeros of L-functions, Heegner points, prime number theory, the theory of quadratic forms, and the arithmetic aspects of quantum chaos. The volume brings together leading researchers from a range of fields who reveal fascinating links between seemingly disparate areas.

Analytic Number Theory for Beginners

This new edition of Analytic Number Theory for Beginners presents a friendly introduction to analytic number theory for both advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate students, and offers a comfortable transition between the two levels. The text starts with a review of elementary number theory and continues on to present less commonly covered topics such as multiplicative functions, the floor function, the use of big $O$, little $o$, and Vinogradov notation, as well as summation formulas. Standard advanced topics follow, such as the Dirichlet $L$-function, Dirichlet's Theorem for primes in arithmetic progressions, the Riemann Zeta function, the Prime Number Theorem, and, new in this seco...

Number Theory

Monumental proceedings (very handsomely produced) of a major international conference. The book contains 74 refereed articles which, apart from a few survey papers of peculiar interest, are mostly research papers (63 in English, 11 in French). The topics covered reflect the full diversity of the current trends and activities in modern number theory: elementary, algebraic and analytic number theory; constructive (computational) number theory; elliptic curves and modular forms; arithmetical geometry; transcendence; quadratic forms; coding theory. Number Theory, Analysis, and Combinatorics

Paul Turán, one of the greatest Hungarian mathematicians, was born 100 years ago, on August 18, 1910. To celebrate this occasion the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the Alfréd Rényi Institute of Mathematics, the János Bolyai Mathematical Society and the Mathematical Institute of Eötvös Loránd University organized an international conference devoted to Paul Turán's main areas of interest: number theory, selected branches of analysis, and selected branches of combinatorics. The conference was held in Budapest, August 22-26, 2011. Some of the invited lectures reviewed different aspects of Paul Turán's work and influence. Most of the lectures allowed participants to report about their own work in the above mentioned areas of mathematics.

This volume contains the refereed proceedings of the Workshop on Cryptography and Computational Number Theory, CCNT'99, which has been held in Singapore during the week of November 22-26, 1999. The workshop was organized by the Centre for Systems Security of the Na tional University of Singapore. We gratefully acknowledge the financial support from the Singapore National Science and Technology Board under the grant num ber RP960668/M. The idea for this workshop grew out of the recognition of the recent, rapid development in various areas of cryptography and computational number the ory. The event followed the concept of the research programs at such well-known research institutions as the Ne...

Exploring the Riemann Zeta Function: 190 years from Riemann's Birth presents a collection of chapters contributed by eminent experts devoted to the Riemann Zeta Function, its generalizations, and their various applications to several scientific disciplines, including Analytic Number Theory, Harmonic Analysis, Complex Analysis, Probability Theory, and related subjects. The book focuses on both old and new results towards the solution of long-standing problems as well as it features some key historical remarks. The purpose of this volume is to present in a unified way broad and deep areas of research in a self-contained manner. It will be particularly useful for graduate courses and seminars as well as it will make an excellent reference tool for graduate students and researchers in Mathematics, Mathematical Physics, Engineering and Cryptography.

Unusual Applications of Number Theory

This volume contains the proceedings of the workshop held at the DIMACS Center of Rutgers University (Piscataway, NJ) on Unusual Applications of Number Theory. Standard applications of number theory are to computer science and cryptology. In this volume, well-known number theorist, Melvyn B. Nathanson, gathers articles from the workshop on other, less standard applications in number theory, as well as topics in number theory with potential applications in science and engineering. The material is suitable for graduate students and researchers interested in number theory and its applications.

Since the first ICM was held in Zürich in 1897, it has become the pinnacle of mathematical gatherings. It aims at giving an overview of the current state of different branches of mathematics and its applications as well as an insight into the treatment of special problems of exceptional importance. The proceedings of the ICMs have provided a rich chronology of mathematical development in all its branches and a unique documentation of contemporary research. They form an indispensable part of every mathematical library. The Proceedings of the International Congress of Mathematicians 1994, held in Zürich from August 3rd to 11th, 1994, are published in two volumes. Volume I contains an account...
