L'any 2002 l'Associació Pro-Memòria als Immolats per la Llibertat a Catalunya va encarregar l'actualització del cens dels executats pel franquisme a Barcelona entre el 1939 i el 1952, amb un resultat de 1717 casos documentats. Darrera aquests fets hi ha la història silenciada, amagada i obviada de 1717 famílies que encara tants anys després es plantegen interrogants sobre què va passar i com va passar. A través de la documentació s'ha pogut donar una resposta sobre com es legislava, s'organitzava i s'executava la repressió franquista. A més, s'ha donat l'oportunitat a les famílies perquè expliquin la seva història, que sempre havia quedat en un àmbit reduït, familiar o local. Elles són les que han conservat com a tresors les darreres paraules que els seus familiars els escrivien poc abans de ser executats. Tots coincideixen en una idea: volem justícia, no venjança.
