The research project CuveWaters developed and implemented adapted technologies and accompanying measures to support the national process towards an Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM). The aim is to give people in the Cuvelai-Etosha Basin reliable access to clean water over the long term, thus enhancing their livelihood and health, and to create job opportunities. Large quantities of water are appropriated to produce the feed annually consumed in global livestock production. Rising concerns about increasing competition for water resources and projected increase in demand for livestock products make it imperative to look for strategies to sustainably increase livestock production, with water being one key natural resource to consider. Using a combination of different datasets, a mechanistic livestock model, and a dynamic vegetation model, we estimate the annual consumptive water use (CWU) in the global livestock sector associated with crops and fodder cultivated on cropland and grazed biomass from pastures.

Der vorliegende Band ist die erste umfassende wissenschaftliche Publikation im deutschen Sprachraum, die auf Basis empirischer Daten aktuelle Formen sozialen Lesens untersucht. Die dreizehn Beiträge befassen sich u. a. mit selbst organisierten privaten Lesekreisen und Internetforen, Buchauswahlprozessen, wissens- und vergnügungstheoretischen Aspekten des Redens über Bücher und den Unterschieden zwischen analogen und digitalen Lesegemeinschaften (Social Reading). Im Fokus stehen die Aushandlungsprozesse in der Konstruktion und Ko-Konstruktion von (literarischen) Bedeutungen durch Freizeit- bzw. Normalleser*innen. Die Ergebnisse eines Forschungsprojekts zu Lesegemeinschaften an der Universität Klagenfurt werden um internationale Perspektiven und literaturkritische Bezüge ergänzt.
Deines Dynasty
Daniel Deines (b. ca. 1760) was probably the Deines individual who emigrated from Germany to Kratzke (along the Volga River, now called Potschinnaja), Russia. Johann Jakob (John Jacob) Deines (b. 1817), his son, emigrated in 1876 from Russia to New York City, and settled in Lawrence, Kansas. Relatives immigrated later (until about 1905). Descendants lived throughout most of the United States, though chiefly in the midwest. Some relatives (from Russia) and some descendants (from Kansas) immigrated to Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and elsewhere in Canada. Includes many ancestors and their descendants in Germany.
