Suppose you were designing a marine mammal. What would they need to live in the ocean? How would you keep them warm? What design features would allow them to dive for very long periods to extreme depths? Do they need water to drink? How would they minimize the cost of swimming, and how would they find their prey in the deep and dark? These questions and more are examined in detail throughout Marine Mammal Physiology, which explores how marine mammals live in the sea from a physiological point of view. This undergraduate textbook considers the essential aspects of what makes a marine mammal different from terrestrial mammals, beyond just their environment. It focuses on the physiological and ...
"Kenneth SOrensen masterfully shows how the human being is a seven-fold system of energies and offers a variety of meditations for accessing all the colors of this rainbow of potentiality. Integral meditation is an illuminating and wise presentation of the science of meditation. It is a candid spiritual autobiography - a magnificent synthesis of the author's life to date and what he has discovered by consciously treading the path of the Soul." Michael Lindfield - Board President of Meditation Mount in Ojai, California Kenneth SOrensen (born 1962) is a psychotherapist, author and spiritual teacher, and the co-founder of Jivayou.com. He has an MA in Psychosynthesis from the University of East ...
This volume collects the accepted papers presented at the Learning and Intelligent OptimizatioN conference (LION 2007 II) held December 8–12, 2007, in Trento, Italy. The motivation for the meeting is related to the current explosion in the number and variety of heuristic algorithms for hard optimization problems, which raises - merous interesting and challenging issues. Practitioners are confronted with the b- den of selecting the most appropriate method, in many cases through an expensive algorithm configuration and parameter-tuning process, and subject to a steep learning curve. Scientists seek theoretical insights and demand a sound experimental meth- ology for evaluating algorithms and...
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 21 International Conference on Database and Expert Systems Applications, DEXA 2010, held in Bilbao, Spain, August 30 - September 3, 2010. The 45 revised full papers and 36 short papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 197 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on Web, Semantics and Ontologies, Information Integration and Process Modeling, Streams and Multimedia Databases, Data Management Algorithms and Performance, Decision Support Systems and Performance, Data Streams, XML Databases, Programming Language and Cooperative Work, Query Processing and Optimization, Data Privacy and Security, Temporal, Spatial, and High Dimensions Databases, Semantic Web and Ontologies.
Provides holistic overview of environmental monitoring Suggests approaches to organize observational data
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 16th European Conference on Evolutionary Computation in Combinatorial Optimization, EvoCOP 2016, held in Porto, Portugal, in March/April 2016, co-located with the Evo*2015 events EuroGP, EvoMUSART and EvoApplications. The 17 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 44 submissions. The papers cover methodology, applications and theoretical studies. The methods included evolutionary and memetic algorithms, variable neighborhood search, particle swarm optimization, hyperheuristics, mat-heuristic and other adaptive approaches. Applications included both traditional domains, such as graph coloring, vehicle routing, the longest common subsequence problem, the quadratic assignment problem; and new(er) domains such as the traveling thief problem, web service location, and finding short addition chains. The theoretical studies involved fitness landscape analysis, local search and recombination operator analysis, and the big valley search space hypothesis. The consideration of multiple objectives, dynamic and noisy environments was also present in a number of articles.
Agent Storm - My Life Inside al-Qaeda by Morten Storm Morten Storm was an unlikely Jihadist. A 6'1" red-haired Dane, Storm spent his teens with a biker gang or in jail. But after converting to Islam he embarked on a transformation that led from a militant madrassa in Yemen to a close friendship with Anwar al-Awlaki, the American-born cleric who would emerge as al-Qaeda's greatest threat to the West. Then Storm's story took another dramatic twist. He lost his faith and was recruited by the CIA, MI6 and MI5, becoming a double agent. His ultimate mission: to bring down his mentor al-Awlaki. This is the searing memoir of a man who sought purpose in a community of believers before rejecting their...
