Theory and Practice of Geometric Modeling

This book originates from the lectures given at the international conference "Theory and Practice of Geometric Modeling", Blaubeuren, FRG, October 3-7, 1988, that brought together leading experts from universities, system developers, and system users, to discuss new concepts and future trends in geometric modeling. The book covers a variety of topics on an advanced level and is organized as follows. Part A contains new algorithms and techniques for modeling objects that are bounded by free form surfaces. Part B focuses on surface/surface intersections, new types of blending surfaces and speed ups for ray tracing. Part C contains some new geometric tools. Part D discusses different representation schemes in solid modeling, conversions between these different schemes, and some applications. Part E covers some issues of product modeling, automatic tolerancing, high level specification of solid models (constraints, features) and the need for better user interfaces.

Knowledge Intensive Design Technology is a collection of papers presented at the Fifth Workshop on Knowledge Intensive CAD, which was sponsored by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) Working Group 5.2 and hosted by the Department of Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Malta in July 2002. The book chapters progressively take the reader through the following sequential sections; -Part One - KIC Development Approaches, -Part Two - Knowledge Systematization, -Part Three - Prototype KIC Systems. Knowledge Intensive Design Technology makes essential reading for practicing engineers/scientists involved in R&D as well as for relevant Masters and Ph.D. students. The book is also pertinent to those in industry concerned with capturing and structuring company-specific knowledge for proactive reuse to increase product development efficiency, and also to those involved in the development of CAD systems.

IFIP Working Group 5.2 has organized a series of workshops extending the concept of intelligent CAD to the concept of "knowledge intensive engineering". The concept advocates that intensive life-cycle knowledge regarding products and design processes must be incorporated in the center of the CAD architecture. It focuses on the systematization and sharing of knowledge across the life-cycle stages and organizational boundaries. From Knowledge Intensive CAD to Knowledge Intensive Engineering comprises the Proceedings of the Fourth Workshop on Knowledge Intensive CAD, which was sponsored by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) and held in Parma, Italy in May 2000. Thoracic Oncology

In the United States alone, the incidence of new cases of thoracic neoplasms is over 180,000. Each year, over 170,000 individuals are expected to die of their cancer. Lung cancer is the most common of the thoracic neoplasms. It is the leading cause of cancer death in both men and women, accounting for 28% of all cancer deaths in the United States. Thoracic Oncology provides an up-to-date and concise review of the various thoracic neoplasms and offers a better understanding of the biology, natural history, diagnosis and treatment of these malignancies. This book will be of particular interest to clinicians interested in thoracic neoplasms, to better understand and treat them.
