The White Rose

'... something evil, yes evil, is present amongst us...' Christopher Marriston, a university lecturer and author, born and raised in Fairfield, now lives in Wakeley with his family. Over on the north shore full time mum, Skyla, raises her two sons. Both Christopher and Skyla are happily married. They have never met nor do they know of the other's existence until one day Skyla buys Marriston's bestseller and lines up to have her copy of the book signed by the author. Skyla is momentarily overwhelmed by an ominous feeling. Why does she feel a sense of urgency to read Christopher's book? There is something she ought to know. Plastic (and microplastic) pollution has been described as one of the greatest environmental challenges of our time, and a hallmark of the human-driven epoch known as the Anthropocene. It has gained the attention of the general public, governments, and environmental scientists worldwide. To date, the main focus has been on plastics in the marine environment, but interest in the presence and effects of plastics in freshwaters has increased in the recent years. The occurrence of plastics within inland lakes and rivers, as well as their biota, has been demonstrated. Experiments with freshwater organisms have started to explore the direct and indirect effects resulting from plastic exposure. There is a clear need for further research, and a dedicated space for its dissemination. This book is devoted to highlighting current research from around the world on the prevalence, fate, and effects of plastic in freshwater environments.

In The Oxford Handbook of Political Communication Kate Kenski and Kathleen Hall Jamieson bring together leading scholars, including founders of the field of political communication Elihu Katz, Jay Blumler, Doris Graber, Max McCombs, and Thomas Paterson,to review the major findings about subjects ranging from the effects of political adver...

Tremendous advances in computer technologies and methods have precipitated a great demand for refinements in the constitutive models of plasticity. Such refinements include the development of a model that would account for material anisotropy and produces results that compare well with experimental data. Key to developing such models-and to meeting
