Algorithmic and Quantitative Real Algebraic Geometry
Algorithmic and quantitative aspects in real algebraic geometry are becoming increasingly important areas of research because of their roles in other areas of mathematics and computer science. The papers in this volume collectively span several different areas of current research. The articles are based on talks given at the DIMACS Workshop on ``Algorithmic and Quantitative Aspects of Real Algebraic Geometry''. Topics include deciding basic algebraic properties of real semi-algebraic sets, application of quantitative results in real algebraic geometry towards investigating the computational complexity of various problems, algorithmic and quantitative questions in real enumerative geometry, new approaches towards solving decision problems in semi-algebraic geometry, as well as computing algebraic certificates, and applications of real algebraic geometry to concrete problems arising in robotics and computer graphics. The book is intended for researchers interested in computational methods in algebra.

Algebraic $K$-Theory
This book contains proceedings of the research conference on algebraic K-theory which took place in Poznan, Poland in September 1995. The conference concluded the activity of the algebraic K-theory seminar held at the Adam Mickiewicz University in the academic year 1994-1995. Talks at the conference covered a wide range of current research activities in algebraic K-theory. In particular, the following topics were covered * K-theory of fields and rings of integers * K-theory of elliptic and modular curves * Theory of motives, motivic cohomology, Beilinson conjectures * algebraic K-theory of topological spaces, topological Hochschild homology and cyclic homology. Algebraic $K$-Theory, Commutative Algebra, and Algebraic Geometry
In the mid-1960's, several Italian mathematicians began to study the connections between classical arguments in commutative algebra and algebraic geometry, and the contemporaneous development of algebraic K-theory in the US. These connections were exemplified by the work of Andreotti-Bombieri, Salmon, and Traverso on seminormality, and by Bass-Murthy on the Picard groups of polynomial rings. Interactions proceeded far beyond this initial point to encompass Chow groups of singular varieties, complete intersections, and applications of K-theory to arithmetic and real geometry. This volume contains the proceedings from a US-Italy Joint Summer Seminar, which focused on this circle of ideas. The conference, held in June 1989 in Santa Margherita Ligure, Italy, was supported jointly by the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche and the National Science Foundation. The book contains contributions from some of the leading experts in this area.
