Matters related to sustainable development, albeit global in nature, are best handled at the local level. This line of thinking is particularly true to the higher education context, where the design and implementation of sustainability initiatives on campuses can demonstrate how a given university translates the principles of sustainable development into practice, at the institutional level. Yet, there is a paucity of specific events where a dialogue among sustainability academics and practitioners concerned with a) research, projects b) teaching and c) planning and infra-structure leading to campus greening takes place, so as to allow a transdisciplinary and cross-sectoral exchange of ideas...
This book focuses on the emerging role of human factors in understanding, communicating with and engaging users. It reports on innovative approaches, with a special emphasis to visuals cues, such as new typographies, geometries and graphics for mobile and computer interfaces. The book also cover topics of image and video processing, user-focused data compression, generative visuals, computational photography, and interactive design. Further topics include creative and empathetic design, human touch in digital graphics and experiential graphics. Based on the AHFE 2017 International Conference on Human Factors in Communication of Design, held on July 17-21, 2017, in Los Angeles, California, USA, this book reports on new findings, best-practices and case studies, providing readers with a fresh perspective and novel insights into the applications of human factors for enriching communication of design to users.
This book is the initial volume coming out of the "excellence project"--a comprehensive research effort commissioned by the IABC (International Association of Business Communicators) Research Foundation. The purpose of this project was to answer two fundamental questions about public relations: What are the characteristics of an excellent communication department? How does excellent public relations make an organization more effective, and how much is that contribution worth economically? The research team began its work with a thorough review of the literature in public relations and related disciplines relevant to these questions. What started as a literature review, however, has ended in a general theory of public relations, one that integrates most of the wide range of ideas about, and practices of, communication management in organizations.
Employee engagement (or a lack thereof) can often be linked to poor communication and a detachment from company goals. Companies of all sizes are looking for ways to boost communication, recognizing its impact on key business outcomes, such as productivity and profitability. This book offers fresh insights about opportunities to improve the quality of employee communications based on employees’ needs. It highlights the importance of simple, jargon-free communication that focuses on dialogue and content. High-performing organizations are more likely to think about communication from the audience perspective, rather than purely from the management perspective. The case studies offer readers a firm understanding of ways to implement and measure communication in daily practice. Effective communication requires planning and this book, with its focus on the US, Latin America, and emerging markets, will guide readers in using communication in the alignment of corporate and employee needs.

The authors wrote an essential handbook for good leadership by linking theories of communication with employees and communicators' testimonials from around the world to their practice of years of work in organizations. In addition, they convey the message that, in these new times, free, direct, open and multidirectional communication is the best way to humanize labor relations. It is this communication that transforms all leaders and employees into agents who move in the same direction, pursuing the same goals of success. This book inspires us to say that being strategic, today, is being dialogical.
