Analysis and Modeling of Complex Data in Behavioral and Social Sciences
This volume presents theoretical developments, applications and computational methods for the analysis and modeling in behavioral and social sciences where data are usually complex to explore and investigate. The challenging proposals provide a connection between statistical methodology and the social domain with particular attention to computational issues in order to effectively address complicated data analysis problems. The papers in this volume stem from contributions initially presented at the joint international meeting JCS-CLADAG held in Anacapri (Italy) where the Japanese Classification Society and the Classification and Data Analysis Group of the Italian Statistical Society had a stimulating scientific discussion and exchange.
Classification as a Tool for Research
Clustering and Classification, Data Analysis, Data Handling and Business Intelligence are research areas at the intersection of statistics, mathematics, computer science and artificial intelligence. They cover general methods and techniques that can be applied to a vast set of applications such as in business and economics, marketing and finance, engineering, linguistics, archaeology, musicology, biology and medical science. This volume contains the revised versions of selected papers presented during the 11th Biennial IFCS Conference and 33rd Annual Conference of the German Classification Society (Gesellschaft für Klassifikation - GfKl). The conference was organized in cooperation with the International Federation of Classification Societies (IFCS), and was hosted by Dresden University of Technology, Germany, in March 2009.

New Perspectives in Statistical Modeling and Data Analysis
This volume provides recent research results in data analysis, classification and multivariate statistics and highlights perspectives for new scientific developments within these areas. Interestingly, it seems that not only our lives, but also our ancestors’ lives, determine how we look. This newly recognized form of inheritance is known as (epi)genetic, as it involves an additional layer of information on top of the one encoded by the genes. Its discovery has constituted one of the biggest paradigm shifts in biology in recent years.
