“Jewish, Gay and Proud”

This publication examines the foundation and institutional integration of the first gay-lesbian synagogue Beth Chayim Chadashim, which was founded in Los Angeles in 1972. As early as June 1974, the synagogue was admitted to the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, the umbrella organization of the Reform congregations in the United States. Previously, the potential acceptance of a congregation by and for homosexual Jews triggered an intense and broad debate within Reform Judaism. The work asks how it was possible to successfully establish a gay-lesbian synagogue at a time when homosexual acts were considered unnatural and contrary to tradition by almost the entire Jewish community. The sta...

This book provides a comprehensive account of German animation history, as well as an analysis of the current state of the industry in competition with American and cheaper international products in the face of dwindling budgets. Covering film and TV, 2D and 3D animation, the book considers how Europe has lost its domestic territory of narratives to international competitors. A connection is made between film history and contemporary history: World War I, the Weimar Republic, National Socialism, World War II, the Federal Republic and German Democratic Republic, Reunification, the European Union, Digitalization and Globalization, and a turn of eras initiated by pandemic, war and inflation. This book will be of great interest to academics, students, and professionals working and researching in the field of animation.

Nakna is a culmination of a 3-year studio project by photographer Mikael Schulz. The title translates to "naked" from his native Swedish. The images in the book are the result of an intuitive and collaborative process between Mikael and his subjects. As he states, "We would start the sessions talking about our bodies, how we feel about them including insecurities and self- judgment. With these vulnerabilities we would start experimenting together with movement." The resulting images are kinetic, monumental and uncanny. Mikael's lens challenges us to look more closely at what's before us but also at ourselves. The book is formated as a oversized folio. Individual sheets can be removed, re-arranged or displayed as a poster. "Would I frame this and put it on my wall?", was MIkael's guiding principle when editing images the book.Publication Spring 2021300 EditionsSize 11.625" x 15.5" / 295mm x 368mm 98 Page Poster Folio
