How do the most extraordinary entrepreneurs create a bold vision for the future-and follow through against all setbacks? Visionaries like Steve Jobs and Thomas Edison are the stuff of legend. Yet we still fumble in describing what they actually do. Drawing on recent insights from neuroscience about the roles that intuition, emotional intelligence, and courage can play, Ten Steps Ahead reveals what makes visionaries tick and how they develop and use their extraordinary powers. We learn, for instance, ? how Richard Branson had the insight to trademark Virgin Galactic in the early 1990s, when private spaceflight was science fiction ? how Richard Feynman made breakthroughs in quantum mechanics b...

In the Midst of the Storm

Mother Nature is the most photographed subject in the world. Storms have captured media attention for centuries. Many storm chasers have risked their lives to get an up-close photograph of a hurricane or tornado. The painting on this cover was chosen because it symbolizes the many storms of life that I have experienced. I have been painted literally standing on the Bible to give an illustration of how I spiritually stood on the Word of God and his promises in the midst of the storm. Even as the artist painted this cover on his canvas, he experienced storms in his life. He continued to paint through the storm. He explained to me his vision for this cover and told me that his life was an open canvas, and he went on to say, God is continuing to paint a picture my life. My prayer is that my speech and my preaching be not with enticing words of mans wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of the power. I pray that my pen would be that of a ready writer and would encourage others as I write In the Midst of the Storm. Charles Dickens

The Art of Pere Joan

Born in Mallorca, Pere Joan Riera (known professionally as Pere Joan) thrived in the underground comics world, beginning in the mid-1970s with the self-published collections Baladas Urbanas and MuŽrdago, both of which were released almost immediately after the death of the dictator Francisco Franco and Spain's transition to democracy. The first monograph in English on a comics artist from Spain, The Art of Pere Joan takes a topographical approach to reading comics, applying theories of cultural and urban geography to Pere Joan’s treatment of space and landscape in his singular body of work. Balancing this goal with an exploration of specific works by Pere Joan, Benjamin Fraser demonstrates that looking at the thematic, structural, and aesthetic originality of the artist's landscape-driven work can help us begin to newly understand the representational properties of comics as a spatial medium. This in-depth examination reveals the resonance between the cultural landscapes of Mallorca and Pere Joan's metaphorical approach to both rural and urban environments in comics that weave emotional, ecological, and artistic strands in revolutionary ways.

Historical Dictionary of Medieval Philosophy and Theology

This second edition concentrates on various philosophers and theologians from the medieval Arabian, Jewish, and Christian worlds. It principally centers on authors such as Abumashar, Saadiah Gaon and Alcuin from the eighth century and follows the intellectual developments of the three traditions up to the fifteenth-century Ibn Khaldun, Hasdai Crescas and Marsilio Ficino. The spiritual journeys presuppose earlier human sources, such as the philosophy of Plato, Aristotle, Plotinus, and Porphyry and various Stoic authors, the revealed teachings of the Jewish Law, the Koran and the Christian Bible. The Fathers of the Church, such as St. Augustine and Gregory the Great, provided examples of theol...
