Foundations of Software Science and Computation Structures
This open access book constitutes the proceedings of the 26th International Conference on Foundations of Software Science and Computational Structures, FOSSACS 2023, which was held during April 22-27, 2023, in Paris, France, as part of the European Joint Conferences on Theory and Practice of Software, ETAPS 2023. The 26 regular papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 85 submissions. They deal with research on theories and methods to support the analysis, integration, synthesis, transformation, and verification of programs and software systems.
A Theory of Distributed Objects
Distributed and communicating objects are becoming ubiquitous. In global, Grid and Peer-to-Peer computing environments, extensive use is made of objects interacting through method calls. So far, no general formalism has been proposed for the foundation of such systems. Caromel and Henrio are the first to define a calculus for distributed objects interacting using asynchronous method calls with generalized futures, i.e., wait-by-necessity -- a must in large-scale systems, providing both high structuring and low coupling, and thus scalability. The authors provide very generic results on expressiveness and determinism, and the potential of their approach is further demonstrated by its capacity to cope with advanced issues such as mobility, groups, and components. Researchers and graduate students will find here an extensive review of concurrent languages and calculi, with comprehensive figures and summaries. Rewriting Techniques and Applications
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Rewriting Techniques and Applications, RTA-96, held in New Brunswick, NJ, USA, in July 1996. The 27 revised full papers presented in this volume were selected from a total of 84 submissions, also included are six system descriptions and abstracts of three invited papers.
