A survey and census of particle physicists employed in the U.S., commissioned by the U.S. Dept. of Energy, NSF, and the Division of Particles and Fields of the American Physical Society. The survey was conducted in 1995, with an update of the census in April 1997. The full survey questionnaires are shown. Laser-Driven Sources of High Energy Particles and Radiation
This volume presents a selection of articles based on inspiring lectures held at the “Capri” Advanced Summer School, an original event conceived and promoted by Leonida Antonio Gizzi and Ralph Assmann that focuses on novel schemes for plasma-based particle acceleration and radiation sources, and which brings together researchers from the conventional accelerator community and from the high-intensity laser-matter interaction research fields. Studies in Early Greek Philosophy
The collection of nineteen articles in Jaap Mansfeld’s Studies in Early Greek Philosophy span the period from Anaximander to Socrates. Solutions to problems of interpretation are offered through a scrutiny of the sources, and also of the traditions of presentation and reception found in antiquity. Excursions in the history of scholarship help to diagnose discussions of which the primum movens may have been forgotten. General questions are treated, for instance the phenomenon of detheologization in doxographical texts, while problems relating to individual philosophers are also discussed.
