Dependable Computer Systems and Networks
The book includes papers about various problems of dependable operation of computer systems and networks, which were presented during the 18th DepCoS-RELCOMEX conference. Their collection can be an interesting source material for scientists, researchers, practitioners, and students who are dealing with design, analysis, and engineering of computer systems and networks and must ensure their dependable operation. Nonlinear System Identification by Haar Wavelets
In order to precisely model real-life systems or man-made devices, both nonlinear and dynamic properties need to be taken into account. The generic, black-box model based on Volterra and Wiener series is capable of representing fairly complicated nonlinear and dynamic interactions, however, the resulting identification algorithms are impractical, mainly due to their computational complexity. One of the alternatives offering fast identification algorithms is the block-oriented approach, in which systems of relatively simple structures are considered. The book provides nonparametric identification algorithms designed for such systems together with the description of their asymptotic and computational properties.

Advances in Knowledge Discovery and Management
During the last decade, Knowledge Discovery and Management (KDM or, in French, EGC for Extraction et Gestion des connaissances) has been an intensive and fruitful research topic in the French-speaking scientific community. In 2003, this enthusiasm for KDM led to the foundation of a specific French-speaking association, called EGC, dedicated to supporting and promoting this topic. More precisely, KDM is concerned with the interface between knowledge and data such as, among other things, Data Mining, Knowledge Discovery, Business Intelligence, Knowledge Engineering and Semantic Web.
