Gender equality in science is a major challenge for higher education systems, which are facing many constraints. English summary: This volume comprises a total of eighteen contributions that were mainly presented in the form of lectures or on posters in the context of the symposium of the same name (careers in research and development - conditions and prospects against the background of the interaction between the institution and the individual). The symposium was held between 2011 and 2013 at the University of Furtwangen on behalf of the STAFF research project, sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the European Union's European Social Fund. This book explores how to be fully cross-cultural and intercultural with research and theory building in educational leadership. It adopts an integrated approach to the examination of common issues across and between cultures and contexts. Each chapter examines an issue or a set of issues that builds on evidence from a minimum of three countries across at least two continents. The data collection methods are consistent for all countries and therefore allow meaningful conclusions to be drawn across the field.
