This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 6th IEEE International Workshop on IP Operations and Management, IPOM 2006, held in Dublin, Ireland in October 2006 in the course of the 2nd International Week on Management of Networks and Services, Manweek 2006. The 18 revised full papers and four revised short papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 45 submissions.
This year's main conference focused on next-generation wireless and wired broadband networks, sensor networks and emerging applications related to access networks. The main conference received 23 submissions from 15 different countries. After a thorough review process, 9 papers were accepted from the open call, one distinguished researcher was invited to contribute an invited paper and one was invited for a post-deadline submission, yielding 11 technical papers altogether. The 11 technical papers were organized into 4 technical sessions. In addition, four posters were allocated for a poster session during the conference. Within the main program of the conference, two keynote speeches address...
Sensor Technologies: Healthcare, Wellness and Environmental Applications explores the key aspects of sensor technologies, covering wired, wireless, and discrete sensors for the specific application domains of healthcare, wellness and environmental sensing. It discusses the social, regulatory, and design considerations specific to these domains. The book provides an application-based approach using real-world examples to illustrate the application of sensor technologies in a practical and experiential manner. The book guides the reader from the formulation of the research question, through the design and validation process, to the deployment and management phase of sensor applications. The pr...
Compared with conventional communications, cooperative communication allows multiple users in a wireless network to coordinate their packet transmissions and share each other's resources, thus achieving high-performance gain and better service coverage and reliability. Energy Efficient Cooperative Wireless Communication and Networks provides a comprehensive look at energy efficiency and system design of cooperative wireless communication. Introducing effective cooperative wireless communication schemes, the book supplies the understanding and methods required to improve energy efficiency, reliability, and end-to-end protocol designs for wireless communication systems. It explains the practic...
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 11th International Conference on Ad Hoc Networks, ADHOCNETS 2019, held in Queenstown, New Zealand, in November 2019. The 28 full papers were selected from 64 submissions and cover a variety of network paradigms including mobile ad hoc networks, sensor networks, vehicular networks, underwater networks, airborne networks, underground networks, personal area networks, device-to-device (D2D) communications in 5G cellular networks, and home networks. The papers present a wide range of applications in civilian, commercial, and military areas.
Security for Multihop Wireless Networks provides broad coverage of the security issues facing multihop wireless networks. Presenting the work of a different group of expert contributors in each chapter, it explores security in mobile ad hoc networks, wireless sensor networks, wireless mesh networks, and personal area networks.Detailing technologies
More and more services are moving to the cloud, attracted by the promise of unlimited resources that are accessible anytime, and are managed by someone else. However, hosting every type of service in large cloud datacenters is not possible or suitable, as some emerging applications have stringent latency or privacy requirements, while also handling huge amounts of data. Therefore, in recent years, a new paradigm has been proposed to address the needs of these applications: the edge computing paradigm. Resources provided at the edge (e.g., for computation and communication) are constrained, hence resource management is of crucial importance. The incoming load to the edge infrastructure varies...
As the field of communications networks continues to evolve, the challenging area of wireless sensor networks is rapidly coming of age. Recent advances have made it possible to make sensor components more compact, robust, and energy efficient than ever, earning the idiosyncratic alias ofSmart Dust. Production has also improved, yielding larger,
The Internet is a remarkable catalyst for creativity, collaboration and innovation providing us with amazing possibilities that just two decades ago would have been impossible to imagine. This work includes a peer-reviewed collection of scientific papers addressing some of the challenges that shape the Internet of the future.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Second International Conference on Mobile Ad-hoc and Sensor Networks, MSN 2006, held in Hong Kong, China in December 2006. The 73 revised full papers address all current issues in mobile ad hoc and sensor networks and are organized in topical sections on routing, network protocols, security, energy efficiency, data processing, and deployment.
