Jesus e as Raizes Judaicas de Nossa Senhora
Se o leitor é cristão e sempre quis saber o que a Bíblia diz efetivamente sobre Maria; se é judeu ou muçulmano e tem curiosidade em saber quem é a Mãe de Jesus; se é agnóstico ou ateu, mas tem interesse nas origens judaicas do cristianismo – qualquer que seja a tradição a que pertence e seja qual for a sua visão do mundo, convido-o a fazer este percurso comigo, tentando olhar para a Mãe de Jesus com os olhos de um judeu da Antiguidade. Garanto-lhe que, qualquer que seja o seu posicionamento, vai descobrir coisas novas so-bre a mulher mais influente da história; pode até descobrir por que razão ela não é simplesmente a Mãe de Jesus, uma vez que os primeiros cristãos lhe chamavam «Mãe de todos os viventes» (cf. Gn 3, 20). Acima de tudo, espero que venha a descobrir que, quanto melhor perceber quem é Maria, melhor vai perceber quem é o próprio Jesus.
6th International Conference on the Conservation of Earthen Architecture
On October 14-19, 1990, the 6th International Conference on the Conservation of Earthen Architecture was held in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Sponsored by the GCI, the Museum of New Mexico State Monuments, ICCROM, CRATerre-EAG, and the National Park Service, under the aegis of US/ICOMOS, the event was organized to promote the exchange of ideas, techniques, and research findings on the conservation of earthen architecture. Presentations at the conference covered a diversity of subjects, including the historic traditions of earthen architecture, conservation and restoration, site preservation, studies in consolidation and seismic mitigation, and examinations of moisture problems, clay chemistry, and microstructures. In discussions that focused on the future, the application of modern technologies and materials to site conservation was urged, as was using scientific knowledge of existing structures in the creation of new, low-cost, earthen architecture housing.

Operational Risk
This paper investigates the generalized parametric measurement methods of aggregate operational risk in compliance with the regulatory capital standards for operational risk in the New Basel Capital Accord ("Basel II"). Operational risk is commonly defined as the risk of loss resulting from inadequate or failed internal processes and information systems, from misconduct by people or from unforeseen external events. Our analysis informs an integrated assessment of the quantification of operational risk exposure and the consistency of current capital rules on operational risk based on generalized parametric estimation.

This book Advances in Modern and Applied Science materializes our long-cherished dream of publishing a series of volumes consisting of review papers on contemporary research fields from a broad spectrum of basic sciences. The Regulatory Responses to the Global Financial Crisis
We identify current challenges for creating stable, yet efficient financial systems using lessons from recent and past crises. Reforms need to start from three tenets: adopting a system-wide perspective explicitly aimed at addressing market failures; understanding and incorporating into regulations agents’ incentives so as to align them better with societies’ goals; and acknowledging that risks of crises will always remain, in part due to (unknown) unknowns – be they tipping points, fault lines, or spillovers. Corresponding to these three tenets, specific areas for further reforms are identified. Policy makers need to resist, however, fine-tuning regulations: a “do not harm” approach is often preferable. And as risks will remain, crisis management needs to be made an integral part of system design, not relegated to improvisation after the fact.
Geotechnical Engineering in the XXI Century: Lessons learned and future challenges
The first Pan-American Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (PCSMGE) was held in Mexico in 1959. Every 4 years since then, PCSMGE has brought together the geotechnical engineering community from all over the world to discuss the problems, solutions and future challenges facing this engineering sector.
