Mathematical Biology has grown at an astonishing rate and has established itself as a distinct discipline. Mathematical modeling is now being applied in every major discipline in the biological sciences. Though the field has become increasingly large and specialized, this book remains important as a text that introduces some of the exciting problems which arise in the biological sciences and gives some indication of the wide spectrum of questions that modeling can address.
Though great advances in public health are witnessed world over in recent years, infectious diseases, besides insect vector-borne infectious diseases remain a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. Control of the epidemics caused by the non-vector borne diseases such as tuberculosis, avian influenza (H5N1) and cryptococcus gattii, have left a very little hope in the past. The advancement of research in science and technology has paved way for the development of new tools and methodologies to fight against these diseases. In particular, intelligent technology and machine-learning based methodologies have rendered useful in developing more accurate predictive tools for the early diagnosis o...
Despite great advances in public health worldwide, insect vector-borne infectious diseases remain a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. Diseases that are transmitted by arthropods such as mosquitoes, sand flies, fleas, and ticks affect hundreds of millions of people and account for nearly three million deaths all over the world. In the past there was very little hope of controlling the epidemics caused by these diseases, but modern advancements in science and technology are providing a variety of ways in which these diseases can be handled. Clearly, the process of transmission of an infectious disease is a nonlinear (not necessarily linear) dynamic process which can be understood only by appropriately quantifying the vital parameters that govern these dynamics.
This book constitutes the proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Mathematics and Computing, ICMC 2018, held in Varanasi, India, in January 2018. The 29 papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 116 submissions. They are organized in topical sections on security and coding theory; computing; applied mathematics; pure mathematics.
In the early sixteenth century, a series of military campaigns between the Mediterranean Sea and Persian Gulf brought the entirety of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers under Ottoman control. This book offers a history of this rare political unification of the longest rivers in West Asia and its impact on the Ottoman state, provincial society, and the environment.
This book equips readers to understand a complex range of healthcare products that are used to diagnose, monitor, and treat diseases or medical conditions affecting humans. The first part of the book presents medical technologies such as medical information retrieval, tissue engineering techniques, 3D medical imaging, nanotechnology innovations in medicine, medical wireless sensor networks, and knowledge mining techniques in medicine. The second half of the book focuses on healthcare technologies including prediction hospital readmission risk, modeling e-health framework, personal Web in healthcare, security issues for medical records, and personalized services in healthcare. The contributors are leading world researchers who share their innovations, making this handbook the definitive resource on these topics. Handbook of Medical and Healthcare Technologies is intended for a wide audience including academicians, designers, developers, researchers and advanced-level students. It is also valuable for business managers, entrepreneurs, and investors within the medical and healthcare industries.
This book collects select papers presented at the “International Conference on Mathematical Analysis and Application in Modeling,” held at Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India, on 9–12 January 2018. It discusses new results in cutting-edge areas of several branches of mathematics and applications, including analysis, topology, dynamical systems (nonlinear, topological), mathematical modeling, optimization and mathematical biology. The conference has emerged as a powerful forum, bringing together leading academics, industry experts and researchers, and offering them a venue to discuss, interact and collaborate in order to stimulate the advancement of mathematics and its industrial applications.
Differential Equations and Applications in Ecology, Epidemics, and Population Problems is composed of papers and abstracts presented at the 1981 research conference on Differential Equations and Applications to Ecology, Epidemics, and Population Problems held at Harvey Mudd College. The reported researches consist of mathematics that is either a direct outgrowth from questions in population biology and biomathematics, or applicable to such questions. The content of this volume are collected in four groups. The first group addresses aspects of population dynamics that involve the interaction between spatial and temporal effects. The second group covers other questions in population dynamics a...
This series aims at reporting new developments of a high mathematical standard and of current interest. Each volume in the series shall be devoted to mathematical analysis that has been applied, or potentially applicable to the solutions of scientific, engineering, and social problems. The first volume of WSSIAA contains 42 research articles on differential equations by leading mathematicians from all over the world. This volume has been dedicated to V Lakshmikantham on his 65th birthday for his significant contributions in the field of differential equations.
Vols. for 1977- consist of two parts: Chemistry, biological sciences, engineering sciences, metallurgy and materials science (issued in the spring); and Physics, electronics, mathematics, geosciences (issued in the fall).
