Art and Intercultural Dialogue
How can art act as an intercultural mediator for dialogue? In order to scrutinize this question, relevant theoretical ideas are discussed and artistic intervention projects examined so as to highlight its cultural, political, economic, social, and transformational impacts. This thought-provoking work reveals why art is needed to help multicultural neighbourhoods and societies be sustainable, as well as united by diversity. This edited collection underlines the significance of arts and media as a tool of understanding, mediation, and communication across and beyond cultures. The chapters with a variety of conceptual and methodological approaches from particular contexts demonstrate the complexity in the dynamics of (inter)cultural communication, culture, identity, arts, and media. Overall, the collection encourages readers to consider themselves as agents of the communication process promoting dialogue.
Grazing Communities
Pastoralism is a diffused and ancient form of human subsistence and probably one of the most studied by anthropologists at the crossroads between continuities and transformations. The present critical discourse on sustainable and responsible development implies a change of practices, a huge socio-economic transformation, and the return of new shepherds and herders in different European regions. Transhumance and extensive breeding are revitalized as a potential resource for inner and rural areas of Europe against depopulation and as an efficient form of farming deeply influencing landscape and functioning as a perfect eco-system service. This book is an occasion to reconsider grazing communities’ frictions in the new global heritage scenario.
Pazze di Lui - Mad for Him: Hagiographic Stereotypes, Mental Disturbances and Anthropological Implications of Female Saintliness in Italy and Abroad from the 13th to the 20th Century
The aim of this book is to investigate the delicate relationship between female sanctity and madness, in a time-frame extending from medieval until contemporary times. Constellated by visions, ecstatic raptures, morbid rituals, stigmata and obsessions, the complex phenomenology of female mysticism appears in fact to be articulated and polymorphous, traversed by 'representations' that it seems possible to link to the wide spectrum of mental disorders, as well to the hagiographic stereotypes and anthropological implications. Male and female scholars from different disciplines (from history to philology, from anthropology to art history, from theology to literary criticism, from psychiatry to psychoanalysis) try to outline a thematic and problematic itinerary, intended to examine, step by step, potential pathological aspects and contexts of reference for the purpose of attempting to reconstruct the complex evolutionary trajectory of female mystical language.

Nelle prime settimane del 2011, la Tunisia si infiamma di una rivolta che, come un rapido contagio, travalica i confini del Paese e si estende in tutto il Nordafrica e oltre. Presto definite “Primavere arabe”, queste rivolte esplodono ancora oggi in molteplici forme, caotiche e radicali, come guerre civili e contro dittature militari, dalla Siria all’Egitto. Questo volume vuole essere un tentativo di ricostruzione di alcune esperienze che attraverso le arti performative si configurano come espressioni del contemporaneo e delle sue istanze nei territori dove una generazione di giovani è scesa in strada per rivendicare libertà e diritti. Seppur con esiti molto diversi, ciò che resta dell’onda di proteste del 2011 nell’area sud-mediterranea è la conquista di alcuni diritti fondamentali che ha permesso di raggiungere territori prima inaccessibili. Tra questi diritti, la libertà di espressione come condizione non più negoziabile, che il più delle volte si traduce attraverso le arti performative.
