The volume brings together several case studies of transition from an ancient to a new legal regime characterized by the positivization of the law. This was an effect of Western imperialism, but also of local elites' conviction that positive law was an efficient instrument of governance. Colonia italiana in cina
Quasi tutti noi associamo la Cina a Marco Polo. La realtà è ben diversa poiché i rapporti fra i due Paesi nascono ai tempi dei Cesari e culminano in una serie di possedimenti nelle maggiori città della Cina, prima fra tutte l’odierna Tianjin dove è costruito un grande quartiere con caserme, ospedale, municipio, ufficio postale. Tutto ciò dal 1900 al 1947. Quella che era la colonia italiana è ancora esistente ed in ottimo stato di conservazione divenendo un centro commerciale internazionale.
