This volume contains papers presented at the NATO sponsored Advanced Research Workshop on "Software for Parallel Computation" held at the University of Calabria, Cosenza, Italy, from June 22 to June 26, 1992. Quantitative Evaluation of Computing and Communication Systems
This book constitutes the proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Modelling Techniques and Tools for Computer Performance Evaluation (Performance Tools '95) and of the 8th GI/ITG Conference on Measuring, Modelling and Evaluating Computing and Communication Systems, MMB '95, held jointly in Heidelberg, Germany in September 1995. This volume contains the reviewed papers presented at the 12th International Conference on Automated Deduction (CADE-12) held at Nancy, France in June/July 1994. The 67 papers presented were selected from 177 submissions and document many of the most important research results in automated deduction since CADE-11 was held in June 1992. The volume is organized in chapters on heuristics, resolution systems, induction, controlling resolutions, ATP problems, unification, LP applications, special-purpose provers, rewrite rule termination, ATP efficiency, AC unification, higher-order theorem proving, natural systems, problem sets, and system descriptions.
Entity-Relationship Approach - ER '93
This monograph is devoted to computational morphology, particularly to the construction of a two-dimensional or a three-dimensional closed object boundary through a set of points in arbitrary position. By applying techniques from computational geometry and CAGD, new results are developed in four stages of the construction process: (a) the gamma-neighborhood graph for describing the structure of a set of points; (b) an algorithm for constructing a polygonal or polyhedral boundary (based on (a)); (c) the flintstone scheme as a hierarchy for polygonal and polyhedral approximation and localization; (d) and a Bezier-triangle based scheme for the construction of a smooth piecewise cubic boundary.
Knowledge Representation and Reasoning Under Uncertainty
This volume is based on the International Conference Logic at Work, held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, in December 1992. The 14 papers in this volume are selected from 86 submissions and 8 invited contributions and are all devoted to knowledge representation and reasoning under uncertainty, which are core issues of formal artificial intelligence. Nowadays, logic is not any longer mainly associated to mathematical and philosophical problems. The term applied logic has a far wider meaning, as numerous applications of logical methods, particularly in computer science, artificial intelligence, or formal linguistics, testify. As demonstrated also in this volume, a variety of non-standard logics gained increased importance for knowledge representation and reasoning under uncertainty.
Parallel Computer Routing and Communication
This volume contains revised versions of the 23 regular papers presented at the First International Workshop on Parallel Computer Routing and Communication (PCRCW '94), held in Seattle, Washington in May 1994. Routing for parallel computer communication has recently experienced almost explosive activity: ever increasing processor speeds are placing greater demands on interprocessor communication, while technological advances offer new capabilities to respond to those demands. The contributions from industry and academia cover all areas, from details of hardware design to proofs of theoretical results. There are also many papers dealing with the performance of various adaptive routing schemes, new network topologies, network interfaces, and fault-tolerant issues.
