A runaway bestseller in Sweden, The Princess of Burundi introduces Inspector Ann Lindell to U.S. mystery readers. When a jogger finds a dead body in the snow, the members of Sweden's Uppsala police force uncover a victim with an unsettling history. John Jonsson, known to everyone as Little John, was a respectable family man and a local expert on tropical fish. But he had been quite a troublemaker, and his delinquent past seems to have caught up with him. Despite being on maternity leave, Inspector Ann Lindell is determined to find John's murderer. The cruel cat-and-mouse game that follows leads Ann to a deadly confrontation with a treacherous killer. Ann must decide whether to take a huge risk that could result in many more dead bodies in the snow, including hers and that of her unborn child. Written by one of Sweden's bestselling crime writers, The Princess of Burundi is an outstanding American debut.
ENGLISH Nearly ninety and still in surprisingly good condition. Like no other research tool the electron microscope by the brothers Ernst and Helmut Ruska and their brother-in-law Bodo von Borries marks the dawn of modernity. The world's first commercial overmicroscope for discoveries in the world of the smallest followed in Berlin 1939. 1948 the German development and application of overmicroscopy was revived in Düsseldorf. As a key instrument of research it has completed a triumphant march and it has won the attention of the Nobel Prize Committee for awards twice. 1986 the No...
This volume Studies in Memory of Issai Schur was conceived as a tribute to Schur's of his tragic end. His impact on great contributions to mathematics and in remembrance of mathematicians Representation Theory alone was so great that a significant number of Researchers (TMR) Network, in the European Community Training and Mobility Orbits, Crystals and Representation Theory, in operation during the period (1997-2002) have been occupied with what has been called Schur theory. Consequently, this volume has the additional purpose of recording some of the significant results of the network. It was furthermore appropriate that invited contributors should be amongst the speakers at the Paris Midterm Workshop of the network held at Chevaleret during 21-25 May, 2000 as well as those of the Schur Memoriam Workshop held at the Weizmann Institute, Rehovot, during 27-31 December 2000. The latter marked the sixtieth anniversary of Schur's passing and took place in the 125th year of his birth.

The studies explore female performance and representation in literar...
In the 1960s the Rhineland was an important center of a revolutionary development in art: a new, internationally connected generation of artists rebelled against traditional art. They used everyday life as a source of inspiration and everyday objects as the materials for their works. They went out into the urban environment. They broke down the boundaries of art disciplines and worked with musicians, writers, filmmakers, and dancers. At the epicenter of this exciting time, the Cologne restorer Wolfgang Hahn (1924-1987) began to acquire new artworks and assemble them into a multilayered collection with examples of Nouveau Réalisme, Fluxus, Happenings, Pop Art, and Conceptual Art. Exhibition: Museum Ludwig, Cologne, Germany (24.06.-24.09.2017) / mumok - Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig, Vienna, Austria (10.11.2017-24.06.2018).
Medieval art history has long emphasized the glories of the Byzantine Empire, but less known are the profound artistic contributions of Nubia, Egypt, Ethiopia, and other powerful African kingdoms whose pivotal interactions with Byzantium had an indelible impact on the medieval Mediterranean world. Bringing together more than 170 masterworks in a range of media and techniques—from mosaic, sculpture, pottery, and metalwork to luxury objects, panel paintings, and religious manuscripts—Africa and Byzantium recounts Africa’s centrality in transcontinental networks of trade and cultural exchange. With incisive scholarship and new photography of works rarely or never before seen in public, this long-overdue publication sheds new light on the staggering artistic achievements of late antique Africa. It reconsiders northern and eastern Africa’s contributions to the development of the premodern world and offers a more complete history of the region as a vibrant, multiethnic society of diverse languages and faiths that played a crucial role in the artistic, economic, and cultural life of Byzantium and beyond.

Through the ages, coins have been more than a common standard or a means of exchange between peoples for goods and services. The development of coinage gave men freedom to move beyond their communities, served as a propaganda tool for advancing armies and visually showed people the source of politics which governed their lives. Today, these same bits of metal, these ancient video disks, transmit through time information that might otherwise be lost to us. This volume comprises a selection of papers given at a conference held at the Nickle Museum of The University of Calgary, Alberta, by perhaps the most distinguished gathering of numismatists ever to assemble in North America. Topics include specific coins of the Graeco–Roman world as well as discussions on coinage and propaganda, art, architecture, and archaeology. Archaeologists, historians, coin collectors, students of the Classics, in fact, anyone who is interested in art and life as it existed in ancient times will be captivated by this collection.
