With the fast development of networking and software technologies, information processing infrastructure and applications have been growing at an impressive rate in both size and complexity, to such a degree that the design and development of high performance and scalable data processing systems and networks have become an ever-challenging issue. As a result, the use of performance modeling and m- surementtechniquesas a critical step in designand developmenthas becomea c- mon practice. Research and developmenton methodologyand tools of performance modeling and performance engineering have gained further importance in order to improve the performance and scalability of these systems. Since th...
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 16th IFIP/IEEE International Workshop on Distributed Systems, Operations and Management, DSOM 2005, held in Barcelona, Spain, in October 2005. The 23 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 87 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on information models and metrics, security and privacy, policy-based management, deployment, auditing and tuning, performance and quality of service, routing, fault management, and distributed management.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 19th IFIP/IEEE International Workshop on Distributed Systems: Operations and Management, DSOM 2008, held on Samos Island, Greece, on September 22-26, 2008, as part of the 4th International Week on Management of Networks and Services, Manweek 2008. The 14 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 38 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on decentralized and peer-to-peer management; operations and tools; security and trust; and measurements, monitoring and diagnosis.
Efficiency is a crucial concern across computing systems, from the edge to the cloud. Paradoxically, even as the latencies of bottleneck components such as storage and networks have dropped by up to four orders of magnitude, software path lengths have progressively increased due to overhead from the very frameworks that have revolutionized the pace of information technology. Such overhead can be severe enough to overshadow the benefits from switching to new technologies like persistent memory and low latency interconnects. Resource Proportional Software Design for Emerging Systems introduces resource proportional design (RPD) as a principled approach to software component and system developm...
The field of signal transduction research is one of the fastest growing in all of biomedical research in recent years. Signaling through cell adhesion molecules have long been of interest because of their importance in embryonic development, homeostasis, immune responses, wound healing , and malignant transformation. However, it is only recently re
The fundamental treatment and management goals in diabetes mellitus are to control and normalize blood glucose levels and to prevent diabetic complications. It also includes maintaining normal growth and development and normal body weight. Proper diet, regular exercise, weight control and different therapeutic agents are the mainstays of diabetic care and management. Weight reduction and exercise have been shown to improve tissue sensitivity to insulin and allow its proper use by target tissues. It is obvious that medical management and goals of therapy for diabetes mellitus have changed since the publication of the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial in 1993. Recent studies have shown that the risk of developing retinopathy can decrease by 76% in properly managed diabetic patients when compared to control group and that clinical and laboratory signs and symptoms of nephropathy and neuropathy can also decrease by 54 to 60%. Modern approaches to the management of diabetes mellitus embrace holistic options and this book addressed various approaches in the management of diabetes mellitus.
This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed postproceedings of the 9th International Workshop on Job Scheduling Strategies for Parallel Processing, JSSPP 2003, held in Seattle, Washington in June 2003 in conjunction with HPDC-12 and FFG-8. The 13 revised full papers presented were carefully refereed and selected during two rounds of reviewing and revision. The papers present state-of-the-art research results in the area with particular emphasis on conventional parallel systems (including infrastructure scheduling algorithms, I/O issues, and QoS), on scheduling issues in the context of grid computing, and on methodological aspects of performance evaluation in parallel job scheduling.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 12th Asia-Pacific Network Operations and Management Symposium, APNOMS 2009, held in Jeju, South Korea in September 2009. The 41 revised full papers and 32 revised short papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 173 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on network monitoring and measurement, configuration and fault management, management of IP-based networks, autonomous and distributed control, sensor network and P2P management, converged networks and traffic, engineering, SLA and QoS management, active and security management, wireless and mobile network management, and security management.
Selected, peer reviewed papers from the 2012 International Conference on Advanced Materials and its Application (AMA 2012), April 28-29, 2012, Changsha, China
Thyroid autoimmunity is a common condition in which the immune system mistakenly attacks the thyroid gland, leading to inflammation and damage to the gland. This can result in a range of thyroid pathologies, including hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. The prevalence of thyroid autoimmunity is increasing worldwide, and it is more common in women than in men. Recent advances in research on thyroid autoimmunity and pathology have improved our understanding of the mechanisms underlying the development of autoimmune thyroid disease and have identified new targets for therapeutic interventions. These advances have also led to improvements in treatment strategies for patients with thyroid autoimmunity. This Research Topic welcomes contributions of any type (clinical trial, correction, editorial, general commentary, hypothesis & theory, methods, mini review, opinion, original research, perspective, policy and practice reviews, review, study protocol, systematic review, technology and code) on topics around recent studies on new treatment strategies for patients with thyroid autoimmunity, thyroid orbitopathy and selected thyroid cancer.
