Expertmedia: Expert Systems And Hypermedia

ExpertMedia is growing in popularity and brings together the well-established disciplines of Human-Computer Interaction and Artificial Intelligence.”ExpertMedia” is a neologism from expert systems and hypermedia systems and is intended to synergistically combine the advantages of each of these components:Expert System + HyperMedia System = ExpertMediaKey practitioners in the field have been meeting at the past two World Congresses on Expert Systems (1991 in Orlando and 1994 in Lisbon). Their experience in the field is brought together in this book which disseminates information about this innovative area to a large audience. The book consists of three different parts: The first part introduces ExpertMedia in general, the second part focuses on case studies of ExpertMedia and Medical Applications, and the last part deals with ExpertMedia and Knowledge-based Systems.

This volume explores the concept of communication as it applies to organizational theory. Bringing together multiple voices, it focuses on communication’s role in the constitution of organization. Editors Linda L. Putnam and Anne Maydan Nicotera have assembled an all-star cast of contributors, each providing a distinctive voice and perspective. The contents of this volume compare and contrast approaches to the notion that communication constitutes organization. Chapters also examine the ways that those processes produce patterns that endure over time and that constitute the organization as a whole. This collection bridges different disciplines and serves a vital role in developing dimensions, characteristics, and relationships among concepts that address how communication constitutes organization. It will appeal to scholars and researchers working in organizational communication, organizational studies, management, sociology, social collectives, and organizational psychology and behavior.

This book focuses on light invariant bare hand gesture recognition while there is no restriction on the types of gestures. Observations and results have confirmed that this research work can be used to remotely control a robotic hand using hand gestures. The system developed here is also able to recognize hand gestures in different lighting conditions. The pre-processing is performed by developing an image-cropping algorithm that ensures only the area of interest is included in the segmented image. The segmented image is compared with a predefined gesture set which must be installed in the recognition system. These images are stored and feature vectors are extracted from them. These feature ...
